Canon EFS 18-55 IS Kit lens: Kit lens autofocus not focusing properly

Good afternoon everyone,

Today i present my trusty old 18-55 kit lens (F3.5-5.6) which has been gradually failing. I was teaching someone a bit about cameras and were trying to take photos and it just stopped. When holding the shutter button down half way, the lens focus ring barely moves if at all. This either requires me to manually focus my shots now or use my other non-IS lens (my 75-300 EF).

I use a 450D ancient camera and i have verified the aforementioned zoom lens works with AF perfectly, however not the kit lens.

I would assume my AF motor is toast however does anyone have any suggestions for fixing this apart from tearing it down (I'm going into this blind as there are no guides on ifixit for this seemingly common place lens).

If the lens is set beyond infinity the focus (autofocus) works.

I tried to adjust the trimmers present in the lens (noting the prime references) but I was unable to solve the problem.

Canon EF 24-70mm f2.8L II USM: Removing a Stripped Screw from Canon 24-70 f2.8 II Front lens assembly

Hi all, I bought a used Canon 24-70 f2.8 II, got it for a great price but the front element was a pretty scratched up. So i called Canon and got a front lens assembly thinking i could replace it myself rather than spending 500-600$ for them to do it. The problem is once i took the front ring off i noticed that 2 out of the 6 screws holding the front lens assembly were totally stripped. I tried a rubber band and I tried glue, nothing worked... I took it to a local repair shop and no luck there either.

Not sure what my next option would be. These are tiny tiny screws not sure a dremel tool would be small enough to make that cut. Also, I have no idea where to buy replacement screws for it.

I inherited this lens in unknown condition for free (along with a mint Minolta 50mm 1:7). These lenses can be used on Sony A Mount and E Mount cameras with an adapter (LA-EA2/4), which is why I took them.

I looked at both the lenses, and while the 50mm passed, the 80-200 has some concerning damage. It feels fine mechanically but I noticed this when I was inspecting the glass for serious damage. I strongly suspect this is a crack or deep scratch. I felt it with a trimmed nail and I feel nothing on the outside as well. Based on the way it's reflecting light, I suspect it's a crack.

I am not 100% sure what the issue is (despite knowing how to identify most lens issues); I've identified it down to 2 potential problems, but I need some additional help because I'm not sure at this point.

Since I feel nothing, I can conclude it was likely 1 of 2 things:

Deep scratch (no impact)

Internal glass crack (WILL have an impact)

Judging from the prices of this lens on the used market, the lens isn't worth getting a professional inspection on. The average price for an excellent copy is ~$15-22, so it's going to be cheaper to buy another copy without this issue if nobody can help ID it. I can see it through the Haze-1 filter the lens came with, if this is a clue how deep it is. I am not sure why the previous owner put the filter on, but I suspect it was installed to mask this damage.
