Macintosh Classic II: It won't power on and it looks like something it's shorting out.

Hello, now I have to say that the problem that I have it's with a Macintosh Classic II and not a 30 SE, but unfortunately there is not way of selecting it.

Anyway the problem is that the Mac will turn on and the fan spins but after 30 seconds the fan starts to make some shorting out noises like if something is shorting out but the fan is working, there is nothing plugged in except for the crt which it cannot be unplugged since is part of the power supply board.

Also another problem is the motherboard that won't give any signs of life, now this could be all faults from the bad capacitors that there are on both motherboard and analog board...if you need a link to the video to see what does happen don't hesitate to ask I will give to u a link to YT.

Oh almost forgot there is also something that looks like an amplifier for the speaker that it was covered in oil and some kind of battery acid (no the battery hasn't leaked).

Don’t ask me why there is glue everywhere…the previous owner probably fixed just fine for make it work 1 week so he could have sold it to me… :/

Macintosh LC II: Can't boot up my computer

I can't boot up my Macintosh LC II. It keeps trying then it stops with a white screen on the monitor. There are no 'faces' appearing on the screen when it tries to boot. Now after umpteenth times I now get only a dark screen. Interestingley in one of the boot tries I was able to get my open file page but with a frozen cursor. After a few minutes the page disappeared with only a white screen again re-appearing. Can this kind of malfunction be repaired?

Macintosh 128K: Disk Drive Not Working

After turning on computer, and inserting a disk, the drive doesn't engage and pull the disk in. Normally, you insert a disk and it gets grabbed by the drive and pulled down into the computer. Now, the "grabbing" part doesn't happen. I can't get the disk to stay in the computer.

Don't know if it just needs cleaning or the motor burned out. It kind of wore out.. it started to happen here and there over a year or so before it just stopped working all together. So, it seems to be a mechanical issue and not an electronic one.

Before I take it all apart.. I thought I would pause to see if others had any input on this. Thanks-

Macintosh 128K: Macintosh Classic: buzzing sound

Hi all,

So I have just received a Macintosh Classic from eBay, with a reported failed HDD but upon inspection it's clearly been knocked about during transit. A refund isn't an option as I got it for next to nothing, and I really want to get it repaired.

The issue:

Upon turning it on, there was no display but I got the chime sound. I opened it up to reveal the board on the back of the CRT had come loose, so I reattached it and booted it back up. Not it makes a horrible buzzing (kind of electric) sound, which made me immediately turn it back off. I reopened it and booted it back up to find that the sound was coming from the clear tube that holds the board. Also, you can see faint blue “electric bolts" from said (and pictured) tube.

As the board was off when I received it and I can hear it's coming from there, I think it's clearly something to do with that. But a more educated guess and/or some tips would be fantastic.

I have checked for bulging capacitors and all of the usual things and all appears to be ok visually. As I said before, when the board was off there was no buzzing sound, that only started when I reattached it. But when he sent it, I seen pictures of the same Macintosh displaying a faulty HDD image, so I don't think anything has failed due to natural causes in the time it took to ship it.

It's a Macintosh Classic by the way.

Many thanks in advanced.

Andy

Macintosh se 30: My mac whistles and does not boot.

Hi, I'm new here. I have an old Macintosh SE/30. I bought it second hand in 1995. Just recently, I brought out of storage and powered it on for the first time in 10 years. It worked perfectly. One day, I powered it on to try to remove some old files. I forgot to turn it off, and it was on for about 1 1/2 hours. I turned it off, and later that day, turned it back on. Instead of bonging and booting, the screen remained dark, and it made a pulsating whistle sound. I opened the mac up, and checked all of the capacitors, and, surprisingly enough, none of them had burst. I also restated the ram and rom, checked all the connections, and cleaned the analog and logic boards. There are no burnt/broken parts on either of the boards, or on the CRT, atleast, that are visible. The inside and outside are in perfect visual condition, and look as they shoud. The sound appears to be coming from the analog board, near the fan/flyback transformer. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a recording because it was to high for any of my cameras to capture it. It's a high, loud, whistling sound, and occasionally the fan would come on as well.
