Well, my throwaway display developed 5 lines in storage. It's being used with the Mac Mini 2012, but these lines developed in storage.

Any way to minimize the visibility of these lines, or is the display toast?

Display: Dell S2421NX Monitor not showing any signs of power.

Randomly the other day I woke up to a monitor with a black screen. Neither the power indicator light or the screens backlight come on when plugged into power. I’ve tried switching power cables to known working ones and switching outlets. Windows still recognizes that a new monitor has been plugged. I have 2 of theses monitors and the other one works just fine. I’m hoping there’s just a fuse or something I need to replace.

I built a new frame for an ASUS Monitor 27”, removed the backlight in order to use the screen transparent with natural light, as done on this video https://youtu.be/Shp5JhOqdKI https://youtu.be/Shp5JhOqdKI I was extremely careful with the electronic components but the screen soon started to flicker and bands went horizontally, it came back and worked for a while but now won’t even power up. Can someone please help me to know how to go about this without damaging the device? Thank you very much, Nick

I covered the top of the electronics with steel sheeting instead of the usual aluminum and tested the monitor with shining a power bank with a flashlight built in it and don’t know if this would have or something else interferes with the electronic components.

BenQ SW2700pt monitor: Replacing all the caps on the monitor's power board didn't help...

My 3.5 years old monitor started to black out for 1-2 sec every minute or so, it was doing this even with PC disconnected from it. I searched online and read that it's probably aging capacitors and there's a workaround to lower the brightness.

I lowered it from 100 to 65% and it indeed helped, but after a couple of months the issue returned... I continued to lower the brightness, but it helped only for a couple of hours at most, then I needed to lower it further... Turning the monitor off and waiting for it to cool down also helped for a short time, after which it continued to black out every 10-30 sec... I decided to take the monitor apart and look at the power board, and indeed saw 3 bulged capacitors.

I bought new replacement caps and went to a professional (soldering is not among my skills), and he replaced all the caps on the power board except the biggest one for high voltage, since it seemed fine and rarely goes bad according to my research. But he mesured it's capacitance and saw it was 120 uF instead of 150, but I decided to see if replacing every other caps fixed the issue (I also didn't have the replacement for the big cap)...

Unfortunately it did not, the monitor continued to black out periodically, I continued to lower the brightness for several hours untill I hit the bottom and at the end the monitor started to fade frantically and after a short time blacked out for good...

I replaced the last capacitor on the power board (150 uF 450 V), but it didn't help, my monitor now is permanently black and doesn't turn on at all (the indicator light turnes white and then red after a minute). And I can see the image on the screen with a flashlight, so it is a backlight issue.

I measured the output voltages from the PSU board to the backlight on CN801 connector (see my 2nd picture below). It's 29.3 V on contacts 3 and 4 (red wires), the rest are 0.

I get the same voltages readings with the power cable plugged in, regardless of whether the backlight is connected to the PSU or not, and whether I turn the monitor on or off with the button (it just drops from 29.3 to 29.2 V when I turn it off).

Someone who took apart the same monitor mentioned on another forum that each wire goes to a pair of LED strips with 10 LEDs on each strip, and the voltage he measured was about 60 V. Those findings correspond to the reference data I received from BenQ tech support. Apparently the voltages I get are half of the nominal...

Does this mean that my power board is faulty? If it is, how can I pinpoint the faulty component on the board? Or the problem is rather the backlight LED strips failure as many people clame? This is a great monitor I payed a lot of money for and I'd really like to fix it instead of throwing it away...

Thanks.

Display: Need IPS Monitor backlight bleed fix

Greetings all

I've just imported my LG UM95-P from Amazon Spain it's a beautiful display but it has some minor but very distracting backlight bleed I have less than 30 days to decide if I want to keep it:

The picture bellow exaggerate the perceived backlight bleed under normal viewing conditions only the bottom left is visible and only when the screen is black:

On 100% Brightness see the distracting yellow bleed on the lower left hand corner.

As you can see on 0% Brightness there is hardly any back light bleed at all which rules out IPS glow .

Overall I'm very happy with my LG and by comparison to many LG UM95-P owners I have very little bleed but the effect when viewing a dark image a film or game (Amnesia: The Dark Descent) being a prime example is like the glow of a small campfire to the left of my peripheral vision which breaks the sense of immersion.

As these screens are well known for this issue a replacement is unlightly to solve the problem, I have attempted to fix the problem myself using Credit Card Light Bleed Fix as seen in this video:

Credit Card Light Bleed Fix

Although it did not fix the problem nether did it worsen it pushing at the bottom left of the screen temporarily removes the light bleed, I even went so far as to try a suction cup which yet again had no effect :(

My last attempt will be fit a folded piece of paper in gap between the screen and the panel as in the following video 1:00 in:

Backlight Bleed Fix

Thanks for reading any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Samsung Display: Samsung C32HG70 horizontal lines

I brought a Samsung C32HG70 a few days ago ( no power and when it was had the vertical lines until warmed up issue). I’ve manager to sort the power problem and also the vertical lines, however the panel has horizontal lines across the whole screen anybody have any ideas on what it might be? Included couple of pics running the Xbox Series X on it today.

I’ve had the back off the panel again and it seems to have a small 3mm split in one of the lvds that connects it on the lcd panel at the bottom, could this be causing the issue?

Dell E193FPc: screen goes black after 1 second

Hi,

My Dell E193FP Monitor goes black after about 1 second after I switch it on. This applies for when I use the "on" button, plug it into the PC, change screen resolution in display settings, etc. It always just shows a picture for 1 second and then goes completely black. The picture I see for 1 second is good and there seems to be no damages in the picture.

Now I'm thinking, if I can get a picture for 1 second, can the screen be repaired?

Cheers,

Christian

Display: Need help with this ribbon cable connector

This is on an HP 2711x monitor. Try as I might, I can’t get the flat cable back in. Does a piece of the connector raise up to allow easy insertion? I’ve tried prying in various directions, but I don’t want to break it. Any tips appreciated.
