Mac Mini Late 2014: PCIe SSD on Mini Late 2014

Hello,

Would like to check if a Samsung M.2 PCIe SSD (MZHPV256HDGL) might work on my Mini.

Have been told that with an adapter for the Flex Cable identified as 821-00010-A and all should work perfectly, but it doesn't!

The Mini doesn't even detects the drive! Verified thru the System Information tool, Disk Utility, etc.

Thanks in advance to the community!

I strongly recommend buying the specific adapter (Flex Cable identified as 821-00010-A), and any PCIe SSD with respective connector, to boost & upgrade your 2014 Mini.

Mac Mini Mid 2010: Unable to boot from Sys HD, Recovery HD, or USB, get white screen

Mac Mini A1347, 1TB SSD installed with 16GB memory. Was working fine for months, installed latest Sierra 10.12.2 update and white screen after restart! Tried PRAM/NVRAM and SMC resets. Get white screen after Apple logo appears and progress gets 1/2 way. Any suggestions?

Update (12/29/2016)

I had disconnected all peripherals and performed SMC reset, still would not boot up. Started up in Single user mode and ran fsck (file system check) with no errors. Created Sierra OSx installed USB stick. Started up in Disk Manager mode and selected USB, Sys HD, Recover 10.12.2 and all resulted in same outcome, white screen after Apple logo and progress bar 1/ 2 way completed.

Update #2

Removed 2 memory sticks and re-installed top stick in lower bank. Boots up to Apple logo and progress bar 1/2 way but now shuts down!

Update #3

Started up holding down Ctrl - D (windows keyboard) to run Apple Hardware Test. Ran 2 passes, no problems found.

Update #4

Started up in Safe Mode. In terminal prompt typed in fsck (file system check). Received the following;

Checking catalog file

Invalid node structure (4,3305)

The volume System HD could not be verified properly

Update #5

First, get the name of the partition of the failing volume. You can get it most easily by finding your disk in Disk Utility, selecting your partition (not the drive) and type cmd-i. Look for "Disk Identifier" right at the top.

Then, open up Terminal, and type this:

sudo /sbin/fsck_hfs -yprd /dev/disk5s2

substituting your disk identifier for the one already here. Keep the "/dev/" part. Enter your password, and wait. It may take a while. I have had this fail several times before finally working so its important to keep trying. It's faster than a reformat!!!

If the afflicted disk is your startup disk, you will need to do this in single user mode: restart the computer, hold down Command S, and wait for the terminal window to appear.

Mac Mini Late 2012: Help - found this part - not sure where it goes

Followup: Thanks to oldturkey03 (and my good friend Tom) my mini is now back up and running beautifully.

I'm attempting to add an SSD to my Late 2012 Mac mini (2.6 GHz Core i7). Everything was going swimmingly (or so I thought... *cue dramatic music*) until the step where I reinstall the hard drive carrier back into the case. It was then that I saw it, sticking out like a sore thumb: a loose... *something*... rolling around in the bottom of the case that I am pretty sure does not belong there. *cue more dramatic music* I think it's a capacitor that I managed to knock off of some board or other as I was disassembling the machine. But don't quote me on that - I'm no electronics expert.

Top view: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1698...

Side view: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1698...

Bottom view: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1698...

I looked carefully at the motherboard and I believe I have found where this part came from. My basis for this guess is because there is a row of similar looking parts (down to the markings on top even) with a conspicuously empty space next to it.

(highlighted in red): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1698...

Detail view: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1698...

Now fortunately I happen to have a friend with both the skills and the equipment to work with surface mount components like these; however I need to make sure (A) that this part really does come from there, and (B) it is reinstalled properly (I'm guessing this part has some sort of polarity or something, a "right" and a "wrong" way to install them). They appear to have a gray stripe on one side of the part, which seems to indicate that. So I thought "no problem, let me go on to iFixit and take a look at their Mac mini motherboard picture, that would confirm my suspicions and tell me exactly how to reinstall this part!"

My problem is that my board does not look exactly like iFixit's picture of this board: http://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/igi...

In iFixit's picture, there are indeed four of these components all lined up in the same spot as they are on my board, except that on the iFixit version, the leftmost three parts are installed with the gray band (I think this corresponds to the "polarity" of the part) pointing upwards, and the fourth one has it pointing downwards. Except on my board, it is the *rightmost* three parts that are mounted with the gray band pointing upward.

Now if I were to hazard a guess, then I would guess that I need to install this part in the empty space to the left, with the gray stripe pointing DOWNwards. But I obviously want to be absolutely 100% precise on this.

Sorry for the non-technical language and the general noobish sound to this post. (Remember I am no electronics expert. :) ) And thanks in advance for your help/advice/etc.

Mac mini (PowerPC): Can not Install OSX on upgraded MacMini Hard Drive

I just upgraded my MacMini from the original hard drive (40G Ultra ATA) to a 320G Western Digital Scorpio Blue Hard Drive. I used the original install disks and partitioned the disk once into one volume and tried to install the original OS X version: 10.3.7. The installer would not allow installation onto the drive. I tried 2 partition system, one 40G partition and 280G partition and no luck. Any idea what is wrong here. I beginning to suspect the installer is snooping for a 'standard' configuration somehow.
