Nintendo GameCube: Disc will stop spinning

My discs will initially start and load up, I can play for a few minutes. Then the disc will stop spinning during game play. I’ve tried cleaning the lens to no avail. Curious if this sounds like a fixable issue? Has happened with multiple games.

My gamecube is booting fine, but if i have my disk tray closed or when a small sound coming from the disk reader ( still with the disk tray closed ) it will show me a red error message with the text : An error has occurred. Turn the Power Off and check the Nintendo GameCube Instruction Booklet for further instructions fix

I tried to boot the gamecube with the disk tray open, i don't have the small startup sound with the animation, it just shows gamecube, then it goes to the main menu. If i do this and then close my disk tray the error is coming back and i have to restart my gamecube.

It do exactly the same with a game.

I don't really understand what is happening, i checked the potentiometer ( it's between 150-250 ohm ) and my lens is not dirty or anything. This is really related to the disk tray and i don't get what could be the problem here. Probably the disk reader but where and what cause this ?

If someone have an answer at least to understand what is happening here it would be really nice.

Nintendo GameCube: Is there a way to fix my gamecube error?

For the past year whenever I turn on my nintendo gamecube it comes up with the error:

"An error has occurred. Turn the Power Off and check the Nintendo GameCube Instruction Booklet for further instructions fix"

Now, the only thing I can find online about this at all is the pdf for the Instruction manual which tells me to just call nintendo support. I did that a long time ago and they told me to send it in. I do not want to spend that kind of money, especially now that it is years outdated. Does anybody have any idea what the issue is? I love learning about electronics. Is it a motherboard issue? The disc spins and it is not game specific. The same message pops up even if there is no game. So far everybody online has been completely useless. I could easily drop a small amount of money and get another one these days, but then I would learn nothing about the system. I am doing this as a learning experience as to what makes electronics run.

Nintendo GameCube: Disk drive not working

I tested the console before installing PicoLoader and the disc drive was working correctly. After installing it, the drive no longer spins, even after uninstalling PicoLoader and restoring it to its original state.

After reinstalling PicoLoader and booting into SWISS, the DVD drive does not appear in the list of sources. I tried swapping drives with another GameCube, and the issue is with the drive itself.

I've got a gamecube with an interesting problem. I have another cube that is known working and I've done part by part swaps (motherboard, disc motor, hinge switch) to narrow down my issue. Something on my disc drive board is wrong and it will not spin the disc. Changing the motor to my known working cube proves the motor isn't the problem. I even swapped the good motor to see if that will work, which it didn't. I have a cheap multimeter and the caps are taking a charge and discharging as normal. A reflow of the hinge connector has not fixed my issue. I'm at my wits end and about to call it a lost cause.

Nintendo GameCube: Disc drive won't turn on after optical drive recapping

Hello! I just recapped the optical drive on my Nintendo GameCube, but now the disc drive won't power up. The rest of the console works perfectly. I think I damaged a pad on the board when I took one of the old capacitors off, but I think I soldered the new one on in a way that would still allow a current to pass through. I also tinkered with the cover sensor switch, which I had previously broken during a different repair after which I rigged it to work with only half of the switch by sticking a little bit of wire onto the contacts, so I'm hoping that that's the problem and not my... soldering skills. I took the remaining brass contact out after it lost its springy-ness and bent it back, so it's possible that I bent one of the prongs too far in one direction. I know that I put all of the new caps on in the right polarity, so I doubt it's that. It's not too much of a rush to fix it because I have a Wii that's capable of playing GameCube games, but I'd still like to fix it. Any ideas, ideally ones that don't involve purchasing a 30-40$ optical drive?

The consoles “turns on” and I checked that at the store, from my knowledge the disk “doesn’t spin” the tray and lens was very dirty. I am going to be purchasing the cord and controllers to test. (Since I haven’t owned one before) but my main issue here is that the “open” button gets stuck and I have to pry it out with fingernail to close it. Any sort of easy repair?

when i turn on my gamecube, most things seem to be working fine, yet when i see the starting gamecube intro thing, there is no sound and no color. it is all balck and white. i have tried using different sound settings, turning the volume up and down, and resetting it, but nothing seems to work. i have no professional experience in fixing consoles.

Nintendo GameCube: No power to Optical Drive

Hi there,

The disc drive on my DOL-001 GameCube has stopped working and all of the “usual” fixes don’t seem to be working.

I don’t get any disc spin and the laser doesn’t turn on when the lid switch is pressed.

So far I have tried:

Adjusting the potentiometer
Check the power board fuse (no issue)
Switch in a known good optical drive

The known good optical drive has the same issue so it seems like the issue is on the main board or power board. Is there anything else I can look at to try and diagnose?

I’ve fitted a picoboot to the main board which works perfectly and the disc drive was working before and after I fitted this. It has just suddenly died completely.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Nintendo GameCube: GameCube light is orange, and disk not spinning and no picture

When i turn on my GameCube, the fans starts spinning and it displays an orange light. the problem is the disc is not spinning and there is no video output. i am using a a/v to hdmi converter. my gamecube is ntsc us

EDIT: ok so video works my av to hdmi adapter just sucks. the disc drive is now the only problem. the screwdriver hasnt arrived yet so i will update soon when it arrives and i have taken a look inside

Whenever I try to use the memory card in a game it says it's damaged, and in the settings it says: "The device inserted in Slot A cannot be used."

The only thing that happened to that memory card was me moving it from my Gamecube to my Wii occasionally.

I’ve had this gamecube for a while now and it’s never given me an issue. The other day, however, I picked up a copy of Super Smash Bros Melee that has issues. It will load up to certain points and then give me the “disc could not be read” message. opening and closing the tray like 15 times allows me to get to the next portion of the game where I encounter the same problem. the disc looked super clean but I had it buffed at a local game store anyway and still get the same results. I have already adjusted the laser POT (160 ohms) and still nothing. again, I can play any other game fine but Melee is incredibly difficult to get anything out of.

I took my GameCube apart and installed a Pico board thing as I wanted to mod it. Followed a guide on YouTube from a guy I've watched before and following them. The GameCube turns on but has no light on the console it flashes orange but then nothing. I know it's on because I can hear the fan. I've got hdmi thing but that only shows a blue screen I don't know what's wrong exactly not sure if the hdmi thing isn't working or if it something to do with the actual console.

I've done as the guy in the video done with soldering soldered each point that needs to be done

If you need more information let me know hopefully someone can answer this

I received a GameCube from someone who got it from their friend. Their friend says it can’t read discs anymore (I haven’t checked myself, I’m worried about burning the disc) and it might need a laser adjustment. I know the laser visually lights up when trying to read a disc (I used a trimmed dvd-r to test). I’ve opened the console up and to see what the laser potentiometer is set to, and it seems to be set to 205 ohms. Now I’m really hesitant to do anything right now because my console is a DOL-001 model, and from what I can find online, the resistance should be around 450-600 ohms.

Is it all fine? What should I do?

i want to buy the pro tech tool kit ,but it looks like the extension will be to wide for the first 4 screws underneath the gamecube, i have looked online for any answers and have found none, will the tool kit reach every screw or security screw in the console?

On my gamecubes pcb disc drive where 2 trace pads came off where the cap goes and there's no spec's anywhere to where all the wires go so idk how fix these problems i have an idea im gonna need jump it with wires
