PSP 1000: Why is my PSP not turning on, but showing the green power light

For a more thorough explanation and the steps I have already tried:

The console was noted as not working and untested
When examining the console before repair-
- Swollen battery
- Noticeable crack above the memory stick port
- Missing silver lining plastic along the left side of the console above the memory stick port
- Small amount of dust behind screen
Beginning MINOR repair-
- Battery was replaced with brand new 3.6-volt, 2600-MA battery
- Brand new charger was purchased and tested on console
- Geen light power indicator was on with NO audio or screen light
- Possible brick was assumed, and all following button combinations were tried
  - Power switch on + L + R
  - Power switch on + L + R + Home
  - Power switch on + Home
  - Power switch on + L
  - Power switch on + R
  - Power switch on + L + Home
  - Power switch on + R + Home

I began teardown following both the Ifixit PSP 1000 teardown article and Robles Junior PSP 1000 disassembly video. No corrosion on the motherboard, memory stick board, and power switch board was seen. All ribbons were removed successfully without tears or accidental bends. All assumed problems are believed to be around the memory stick board as after teardown the plastic tube above the board that holds the memory stick (if you turn the back plastic shell on its back its where the top screw when you first begin disassembly is located) broke off from the back shell piece. After removing the memory stick board, I noticed that the small metal piece that holds the board was completely missing. No other pieces or screws were missing from the console. After teardown I reassembled the console enough to see a response. The only pieces not assembled were the bottom bar (home and volume), plastic door tray, and top shell piece. After inserting the battery and turning on the console, the screen did come on and respond to left, right, up, and down commands as well as the triangle, circle, x, and square buttons. After inserting a game, the screen showed it was unable to read the disc. After attaching the mention pieces that were unassembled for the test run another final test showed the green power indicator with the screen showing light; however, it was completely black. I hope this serves as a good explanation as I want to be as detailed as I can. Thank you for taking the time to read this and have a good day!

P.S. before I forget, the audio had no noise and I have ordered a shell replacement to see if this may be the possible problem. In short of the whole big explanation, I think the system is possibly overheating due to the missing metal piece that holds the memory stick board in place. I haven't seen any listings on ebay, amazon, or the ifixit store for this piece though.

PSP 1000: PSP 1001 - only works "Power up without battery then put battery back"

Let me sum it up of what I found and what I did so far, thx !!!

The PSP 1001 was from a thrift store, it came with Sandisk 4gb stick Pro (I formatted and no difference between with OR without booting ) + Sony branded 1800 mAh battery (but it has a tape around the battery, assuming it has been tampered).

The first time I turned it on normally, it got "green light and no screen". Then I tried both "Holding HOME + R + POWER" & "HOLDING HOME + SELECT + START + SQUARE + TRIANGLE" - still only green light.

Next, I took out the battery and just power on with the power cable - it would "green light" for a second then it turned off by it self.

And after that, I finally got screen by doing "Power on without battery then immediately inserts the battery back before the green light turns off"

After I got the screen back. The PSP had firmware "5.00 M33-6", so I upgraded the firmware to 6.60 and then 6.61. During both firmwares, they didn't fix the "green light no screen", I still only get screen by doing "Power on without battery then immediately inserts the battery back before the green light turns off"

So assuming it is soft bricked, how can I fix it?

PSP 1000: My PSP will freeze when trying to use UMD's

I have a PSP 1000. I got it as a gift from my brother and it worked great. Then i got adventurous and decided to change the housing. I had a few problems along the way but once it was all back together it still turned on. Successful! No….

When i tried to play one of my UMD discs it would sort of freeze with the loading icon in the bottom right. Nothing else happens the disc wont be read. I thought I may have broken something so I bought some new parts. i replaced the UMD drive, tried again. Still nothing. I looked into updating my system, and its already up to date.

I want to save getting a new console as a last resort. I would appreciate any advice.

PSP 1000: My PSP buttons do not respond at all. What is the problem?

I have a red PSP 3006. The buttons do not respond and felt loose. It worked fine but only the D-Pad, the analog stick, and the L and R buttons work. Can you tell me what the problem is?

PSP 1000: HDI Fix PSP 1001 door latch that holds the umd cover down?

I have read the tutorials for fixing the UMD door I could have done it without opening the psp 1001. I guess I need a replacement door.

I want to know if I need to buy a part to fix the latching mechanism for the umd open button. It gets stuck and doesnt slide back into place to hold the umd cover down.

PSP 1000: Speakers not working, as well as headphone jack?

Do not get sound with earphones plugged in the earphone jack. Also, speakers do not work when earphones aren't plugged in as well. Anybody got solutions to this? Thank you in advance!

PSP 1000: PSP 1000 won't charge

My PSP that hasn't been used and turned on for a long time made its battery dead...before this ,I had no trouble charging it even when I barely used it..recently I tried charging it with its charger but its not charging..the charging light doesn't appear when I plugged it in...I do not know whats wrong with the charger..looked up all the videos and sites..nothing's working

PSP 1000: psp umd motor wont move but laser turns on

Has anyone had an issue where the psp umd motor wont move at all? The laser still turns on and the disc spins.
I replaced the umd drive with a working one and it still doesn't move. I even swapped the motherboard but still nothing. I know you can play games by loading them to a micro sd card but I would still like to know whats causing the umd motor not to move at all, thanks.

PSP 1000: My psp not turning on

I found my old psp in his box, I decided to load it to play because I missed him, but then when I loaded it for a while I decided to turn it on, but the green light on the power was on and the psp did not appear on screen, Connected, until I tried to turn it off normally but it did not work, I had to hold the power for 5 seconds to be able to turn it off, does anyone have any idea what problem this is? , Already tried with the charger connected in it without the battery but also did the same, also took the mdstick and the problem continued

I bought a psp 1000 on ebay, broken screen. I replaced the screen and shell. after doing this bought a dummy battery and charger. everything works great with just the battery, the problem is when I plug the ac adapter into any outlet it turns right off and does charge, when I try to turn it back on the green light comes on for a sec and then turns off, if I unplug it, works fine. HELP

PSP 1000: No display or power led

Hey, I’m kinda stuck on a PSP-1000. Battery and charger are good (checked with a basic voltage tester), but the thing just won’t turn on. No power LED, no screen, no sound.

I’ve already tried:

Different batteries
A new charging port
A new button board
Reseating the grey ribbon cable

Power is getting through (even to the LED board), but the LEDs never light up. Hold switch moves fine. Same result every time.

Before I drop like $50 on a replacement motherboard, does anyone know any common PSP-1000 issues that cause this? Bad ribbon cable? Blown component? Something dumb I’m overlooking?

Any help would be appreciated

Hello, I recently bought an untested secondhand PSP-1001 off of someone, no battery no charger. I put the battery in after a bit of charging and the green power indicator stays on for around 10 seconds while the screen stays completely dark. What do i do?

PSP 1000: Replacing my PSP 1004's LCD screen with an IPS: display scale issue

I bought an IPS screen to use in.my PSP-1004 (model TA-081).

I followed several tutorials and my screen is actually working, but I get this weird display with a pixelized view and an oversized display scale (see the truncated upper status bar):

I read several times that a tiny bridge had to be made by soldering pads or one of the orange spots, but I don't know if this is related to my issue. My backlight fuse seems to be ok.

PSP 1000: What would cause the disk reader to click when game is inserted?

Hi I am trying to figure out why the disk reader clicks after putting in a game. I replaced it with one I bought along with other parts and I got the psp working but when I put a game in I hear it spin but then a lot of clicking. Any ideas?

found my old psp 1001 a while ago and i wanted to play some kingdom hearts on it but i couldnt get it to turn on. i tried charging it for a bit with a laptop charger unbeknownst to me that i had made a big mistake. i pluggged it into a 40 volt charger for about a day and nothing happened. just orange light and no power. i then tried it with no battery like i read on reddit and nothing. same result. i tried everything and i cant get this thing to power on. if anyone can provide help i would be VERY grateful. i havent tried taking it apart just yet, i want to know WHAT to do specifically before tackling this. thank you for reading and have a great day.

also, i forgot to mention, when i tried powering it on with no battery i used the oem charger

PSP 1000: PSP 1001 Right Trigger Unresponsive

Basically I haven't used the PSP in some time and after starting it again I noticed the right trigger is toast, doesn't respond to any clicks.

Anyone know what might fix that?
