Steam Deck: SSD upgrade storage issue/question

I recently cloned the stock 64gb ssd onto a 2tb ssd. I replaced the stock ssd and the device works fine, but it's only showing 476gb of storage. I'm wondering if this is an issue with the ssd itself, or it's partitioned or something along those lines where the correct storage space exists and is just not showing as available.

Steam Deck: What are the 5.2mm screws inside the Steam Deck, where to get them?

There seem to be about 20 of these in each Steam Deck. These are zinc plated M1.5 or M1.6x4.5mm screws, self tapping, wafer head (0.7 mm high, 3.5 mm diameter). The diameter varies quite a bit, i.e. either M1.6 or M1.5. The thread pitch seems to be around 0.5 or 0.6 mm. There appears to be no official sources for these screws. Does anyone know where to source them?

Steam Deck: Replace screen without full disassembly?

The iFixit guide on screen replacement implies that you basically have to work from the back, removing parts as you get to the front display: Steam Deck Screen Replacement

However, in the video teardown, they say that you can remove the display without any disassembly by softening the glue and carving it out with a tool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4T0RZ6us...

Is there any written documentation on the latter method or is it really that 'simple'? What are the benefits of going through the whole disassembly process per the written guide?

Steam Deck: Help Identifying Components / Values Please

Hi,

I'm attempting to fix my brother's steam deck. I think he's been using the wrong charger and damaged something near the battery connector.

The smaller component that you see missing from the image looked visibly scorched but the bigger component is shorted out and looks bad too.

Edit: Turns out both these components were fine and I'm just dumb.

I'll be honest here, my soldering is very good, I replace a lot of HDMI port with a 99% success rate but I know very little about how to read datasheets to identify component values etc. (Something I'd love to work on)

But if anyone in the community can help, I'd be very grateful.

Board is Rev F if it helps.

Kind regards,

Chris

Steam Deck: Only power button, volume buttons, and touch screen work.

Only the power button, volume buttons, and touch screen work on my Steam deck. Furthermore, there is no longer a chime on startup. This was after I installed a shell replacement. In the past I have successfully completed an SSD replacement as well but I have had no issues until after completing the shell replacement and turning on my Steam Deck. I have gone and double checked all of the ribbon cable connections but still no luck. The Steam Deck still turns on and I can navigate on it with the touch screen or by using an external keyboard. Is there a specific cable that could be causing these issue? Could it be that the trackpad no longer works as I heard that the trackpad is what makes the chime noise? Thank you.

Steam Deck: Why is my display so Dim?

So basically here is what happened. I started noticing that the screen on my steam deck would start to flicker between super dim to bright very sporadically. I would originally fix this by turning the display brightness all the way up. This would stop it from flickering, but any time I turn the brightness back down it would continue to flicker. I have done all the resets and restarts so I don't believe its software related.

After awhile I started to notice that it was getting worse and the screen would stop flickering and just completely stay dim. Now I do see the screen and I can still manage the steam deck it’s just that the brightness is all the way down and I have no way of increasing it.

Edit:

I have some pictures of the steam decks circuitry and I have not noticed anything obviously unplugged or damaged. Another update to the problem the back light just never comes on now.

Steam Deck: Left speaker suddenly stopped working.

The left speaker suddenly stopped working and I'm outside the US so RMA would be a pain. Anyway, rebooting, doing factory reset, and installing Windows to just test audio didn't seem to fix the problem. Audio only plays on the right speaker no matter what OS. Audio via 3.55mm/Bluetooth works fine.

This started happening after waking up the Steam Deck and all I get is a crackle from the right speaker. When I rebooted, there isn't any audio playing on the left speaker though the crackling on the right speaker appears to have gone away.

Does this mean the speaker itself is broken?

I already have the speaker replacement arriving next week. Just want to make sure I'm on the right path?

Steam Deck: Removing the 4 bottom screws from Deck's backplate...

Hello. I got the JSAUX clear backplate to replace the Deck's original and tried to install it the other night but the 4 bottom screws, particularly the last 3 (the furthest one on the left side is very loose but won't come out of the hole) are not budging. If I have stripped any of them, the damage seems to be minimal.

I read that Valve used Loclite Blue and so I am wondering if I need to use a soldering iron to remove these pesky screws.

I am also wondering if I need to buy this site's Precision Screw Extractor Set because maybe the screws aren't budging because I have actually stripped them and just don't know it (top 4 came out super easily).
