iPhone 3GS: iPhone 3GS — “iPhone is Disabled, Connect to iTunes” and iTunes Won’t

I’m trying to restore an iPhone 3GS that is disabled. I don’t need the data. I just want a clean restore so the phone works again. I’ve already accepted that everything on it is gone.

Here is everything I’ve tried and all the issues I’m running into:

Device State

iPhone 3GS enters Recovery Mode normally (connect-to-iTunes screen).

iPhone 3GS also enters DFU Mode (black screen).

The phone definitely turns on — not dead or bricked.

Cable and ports work; the phone is detected by Windows.

Battery isn’t the issue — it charges and powers on.

Important Info

The latest iTunes version DOES detect the iPhone 3GS in DFU mode.

But when I click “Restore iPhone…,” it immediately fails with this message:

“This iPhone was previously in DFU mode, but restarted and is no longer in DFU mode.”

So iTunes sees the phone in DFU, begins preparing the restore, and then forces the device to reboot — kicking it OUT of DFU before the restore starts.

This seems to be a Windows 11 + modern iTunes issue where DFU mode is not maintained on older devices (3GS/3G).

Older iTunes versions do NOT detect the device at all, which prevents doing a manual IPSW restore.

Main Problem

I do NOT care about the data.⏎
I just need the phone restored to working condition on iOS 6.1.6.

I am no tech man when it comes to this stuff, but I have been working on it for hours on end.

iPhone 3GS: Boot Loop and battery not charging

Hi, I have used iphone 3GS model-A1303. I haven't used it for a long time and when i recently tried to turn it on it first displayed a battery flat icon and later it showed me the apple logo and then turned off. I charged it for 4hrs and still the same. So I enabled DFU mode and itunes recognized the device and when i tried to restore it posted that the device was previously in DFU mode now it has been restarted but my device is still in DFU mode. I suspect that this is a battery issue but before buying a new battery i need to make sure that the device is in working state. is there any way to find that or boot into device without battery. Thanks!

iPhone 3GS: How can I make the service work again?

I have a Qlink simcard. I wanted to see if it would work with my 3gs so I put the sim card in the phone and it said searching. It said this for about 2 minutes and went to no service. The weird thing is I took the sim card out and back in, and after searching for a little bit, It said home in the top left corner and had three little bars. I scurried to call my other phone and amazingly the call went through, and I could call the phone, and make calls from it and it was working like it would back in the day. After around 3 minutes, It went back to no service. So how do i make it stay in service?

iPhone 3GS: iPhone 3GS with unresponsive power button and stuck up recovery mode

Hi

I have an iphone 3GS with its power button not working. When I took out the phone after one year and charged it, I found the phone was stuck in recovery mode with a display 'connect to iTunes'. I tried all the procedures to come out of the recovery mode to bring the phone back to normal condition but to no avail, I tried a third party software Tenorware Share ReiBoot on Trial version. When everything seemed to be going fine, at the completion stage of software and firmware verification, alas, there came a pop out , that my iphone has a problem! And the operation got aborted.

Can anyone throw some light on this? Is it because of the non-function of the power button? Unless the button is set right or replaced one can not hope to resolve the problem?
