iPhone 4: Replacement iPhone 4 Display Assembly Parts

Long time follower, first time writer.

So I keep seeing responses to posts about having to purchase the digitizer, frame, glass and LCD as one unit for an iPhone 4. However I only see these responses for questions asked about only replacing one of those items. For example a person has a broken front glass but the digitizer is fine, or they only want to replace the LCD component.

My question is this,

As many of you likely know, eBay has a plethora of offerings for a person to buy the glass, digitizer, frame and LCD units separately. What I am confused about is why I wouldn't be able to purchase all the parts separately to make my own Display Assembly.

No one has really clearly pointed out why you can't combine all the parts yourself to make the assembly.

I understand that the LCD and Digitizer are fused together with the OEM part.

If they need to be fused together, then why? The way I see it, I could buy the frame, glass and digitizer as one unit and the LCD as a separate unit and just slap them together (not fusing them). I am sure I will have issues with dust and debris possibly getting between the front and the LCD, but shouldn't the parts function under this presumption? Isn't this how previous iPhone models worked...?

I look forward to hearing any and all responses to these questions.

Thanks for stopping and reading my post.

Update

To those who might browse this topic.

Alex Jansen and Scott Head wrote back confirming that in theory, using a separately purchased digitizer assembly (glass, frame & digitizer) and an LCD unit should function as expected, in reference to my questions about the front glass, digitizer and LCD components.

So to clarify (for those of you with a similar question),

If you wanted to purchase the iPhone 4 Display Assembly components separately, you could and they should work, how well though is a different story all together.

I have yet to see a concrete write-up or video of someone who has taken this course of action.

If you've got a link you could share, showing a video of someone fully disassembling an iPhone 4 and replacing the front assembly with a non-fused LCD panel (or something close), that would be great.

I have also included a link below to a YouTube video of someone who leads you to believe the LCD unit is separate, but the video skips the part showing the LCD placed in the digitizer.

YouTube Video Link

I'd also like to thank all who have contributed to my topic so far.

Thank you,

iPhone 4: How can I remove something stuck in my sim card slot?

I dropped my phone in water this past weekend. I immediately removed the case and dried it off. I then blow dried it for about 20 minutes on a cool setting. I removed the sim card slot and placed the phone in a bag of rice for 4 days. I removed my iphone and much to my surprise after charging for about 15 minutes it turned on! My screen, sound, camera, and games all work. However, I have a BIG small problem. There is a piece of rice stuck in my sim card slot, so now even though my phone survived I can't insert my sim card to be able to place a call or text! What is the most effective, efficient, and safe way to remove something from the sim card slot? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

iPhone 4: Is it possible to replace only the glass on the iPhone 4?

My iPhone 4 fell from my hand one week after I bought it. The front glass was completely broken, but since I am using the glass protection sticker I am able to use all the functions in the phone, even the touch screen doesn't have any problems.

Please let me know if it is possible to replace only the front glass (without LCD). I have checked with a service center and he said the glass and LCD panel comes together and it costs almost 30% of the phone cost. Also please let me know is it safe to use the phone with broken glass

iPhone 4: iPhone 4 error 21 and will not start

Hello, i have a big head cracker, LOL

So I buy this iphone 4 as faulty, cheap... I knew the phone was stuck in in restore mode and I was thinking that all it needed was to plug and restore, nothing is easy in live, and this is no different.

So if I plug the phone to the wall or PC I get the apple logo on the screen, if the phone is not connected to wall or PC, the phone will not turn on nothing happens not even if I press the power and home button.

I now the battery is fully charged so it should power on, but it does not, only if connected to wall or PC. Is this normal? the phone doing this with error 21 the battery connector looks in good shape, and i tried the battery on other iphone and it works.

So when I connect to PC and try to restore I will get the error 21, so I Google a fix and do as instructed. I deleted a ETC file and a different error appear, all I needed to do was update itunes, so I try again to restore but error 21 comes up again With or without ETC file (file is in recycle bin).

I think the phone must have been jailbreak... But if anyone have any ideas please help... I afraid the logicboard might be busted, but the PC recognizes the phone and installs the divers needed... I just to novice at iphones :) i gess...

Thanks guys and sorry for the big love letter, LOL

I read in some forum about custom ipsw and TinyUmbrella but i have no idea how this will help, i tried redsn0w but it did not work i just tried the jailbreak option.

iPhone 4: No Signal - No Service - No Capacitor - Motherboard picture

Hi to all,

this is my first post here. I heard about this forum on another website...that hear are professionals and they could help me maybe.

So my problem...i have bought an used iPhone 4 which is factory unlocked and jailbreaked. When i put my sim card inside i can use

WIFI without problems, but i don't get phone signal...always searching and no signal - no service.

So i decided to open the phone, and look...

- i see a broken signal antenna which was not connected anymore (I will buy a new one and replace it)

- the battery bracket connector was not there - somebody removed it and lost (I will buy a new one and replace it)

- i don't see the small blue capacitor-coil...and there shold be another small capacitor (smd)...look at the picture (?????)

Picture: http://oi46.tinypic.com/n532i8.jpg

Can somebody tell me if this is normal that there is no capacitor near the antenna connection? I looked on other pictures of iphone logic boards and

saw, that they have a small blue capacitor there and also another one capacitor, which is same size but not blue.

Should i buy new smd capacitors and solder on the board or? What are the suggestions...and what type of capacitor is this...what mode, how many V and what capacity in uF?

Thank you guys for your help in advance!

iPhone 4: Which screwdriver is needed for new iPhone 4 screws?

The latest iPhone 4 uses new screws to attach the rear panel. I'm referring to the two screws on the bottom side.

iPhone 4: Why is the Home Button loose after screen replacement?

I purchased the front panel replacement recently from ifixit, and last night I had a chance to replace my shattered screen (*tear*). Anyways I get done with the entire process and when I turn around my phone to admire my new shiny screen, I notice the home button is loose! I'm not sure if loose is the correct word but it seems as if it's deflated? If you tap it with the edge of your nail it will rock back and forth like a see-saw. The button overall still works, but this is super annoying.

My question, could it be something I missed during reassembly? And if so does anybody have an idea what it could have been? I looked at the comments on the guide and no one is mentioning this issue.

A second thought, this display seems thicker compared to my last display, but I haven't confirmed this yet. I received my phone on its release so I'm curious if something has changed in the parts since then.

I know a tear down is imminent, but I don't want to go down that road without knowing what to fix, or a suitable hack I could try to make it better.
