iPhone 4S: Trouble with new battery installment

I bought a new battery and installed it, but my iPhone 4s screen will not come on; however, it does charge and the charge signal shows. I am not sure what the problem is because just weeks earlier, I conducted the same repair with another iPhone 4s that I had it works just fine. I need to get the most recently repaired phone to work because it is my main phone. Do you think I bought the wrong battery or something else going on?

Thanks,

iPhone 4S: Water damage/update or recover

My sons phone was in the washing machine for about 5 minutes. I extracted and put in rice and then on top of hot water cylinder. So now it starts up ok, but the

home button doesnt work (have assistive touch option activated) so this is not a major. But now when he tries to charge it, it comes up with the 'plug into itunes' picture. When he does, it says it needs to be updated or recovered. He tries to update it, and it says, it cant be, and it needs to be recovered. He tried this, then did the updates.

But the prolem is recurring. I have found instructions on many fixes on this online BUT I am wondering if any of these fixes are pointless, because the problem originated from water damage, and so may be more of a hardware problem than software. THANK YOU.

iPhone 4S: iPhone 4S will not turn on or charge

I know the 4S is old now but I'd still like to get the phone working as an emergency backup.

I've taken the back off and measured the battery with a multimeter and it measures 0V but I suppose that's not surprising as the phone hasn't been used since it stopped working over a year ago.

With the charger connected I measured the left and right pins of the battery connector in the actual phone and it measured 1.15V, not enough to charge the battery.

My guess is the dock connector is ok or I wouldn't see 1.15V. Does that sound right?

If my guess is true then perhaps it's the logic board that's at fault.

I've measured continuity through L3 and L4 but have not worked out how to get access to L28 to test it.

How am I doing so far, does the above sound right?

Thanks for reading

iPhone 4S: Any way to fix charging port short?

Driving down the road, pick up my phone to use it and boom nothing. Won't turn on, won't charge. My battery life has always been awful, so I figure it finally died for good. I take it into the Apple store for a second opinion, Genius points at charging port and shows that covering two of the terminals is evidence of a spark. She said there's no way to fix it. Is the entire logic board shorted out or just the charging port? Could I take it to a shop and have the charger replaced? I've swapped several digitizers and I understand the basics of the phone, but I'm incapable of soldering or anything of that sort.

iPhone 4S: Charge iPhone via wall *and* sync via USB at the same time?

My iPhone 4 was water damaged.

After having it professionally repaired, it's somewhat working.

Boots normally when connected to wall power.

Shows Apple logo for 10 seconds, then turns off, when connected to computer for power/sync.

Battery does not work; must be connected to wall power.

Wifi, Bluetooth, Cell Network do not work due to water damage.

So, I'm having a very hard time finding a way to get my data off this phone. It must be connected to the wall for power, and thus I can't connect it to my computer.

One solution I can imagine is connecting the phone to wall power *and* connecting it to the computer at the same time.

Do any adapters exist that would enable this?

EDIT:

I've just now tried charging via my Apple Cinema Display at work.

When my Macbook is not connected via Thunderbolt, the iPhone charges fine off the display's USB ports (as if it were connected directly to wall power).

However, as soon as I connect my laptop to the display, the iPhone shuts off.

There must be a short in a syncing-specific area, unrelated to power?

I don't know what to do. Can't figure out a way to get the data off this phone.

iPhone 4S: Dropped in toilet with a lifeproof case on

So, I knocked my phone into the toilet with the lifeproof case on. The phone actually got sucked up into the toilet and as I had my whole arm up there, I opened the little flap door over the dock as I pulled it out. I immediately took the case off, dried it off. Phone wouldn't turn off. I blew out out water I could which was about a few drops. I placed it in the dryer on the shoe rack- on the air/low setting for a few hours. It worked fine through all, but the battery would drain down and I would have to charge it a couple times through the day. I got a battery kit from Ifixit.com and replaced that-the old battery had some bubbling under it.

facts:

The battery lasts longer now, but seems to drain faster now.

I have opened it up, alcoholed with a q-tip what I could and I feel dried it out well. I noticed no corrosion inside as I had to wait for the kit to open it for about a week.

It seems to take longer to charge.

The water sensor in the headphone jack is still white.

I think the water sensor in the docking port is gone--I see no red or white.

It connects to my computer fine and I backed up the phone.

There seems to be a lot of lint in the docking port.

What can I clean/replace to get me back to good at this point?

Are there other water sensors inside that I should look at?

This site is great!

iPhone 4S: Battery Ground Clip - how important?

I recently replaced the battery on an old iPhone 4s to pass on to a grandparent who just needs a phone. I purchased the kit from iFixit and it all worked great - so well in fact that I decided to do it on ANOTHER old 4s I had laying around.

In this second phone, there was NO battery ground clip as there was in the first re-install. Obviously someone else has been inside this phone before.

My questions are:

1. I am sure this ground clip is important, but how so?

2. I would be happy to open the phone back up and install one....but where do I get one?

iPhone 4S: Replaced iPhone 4s battery, still drains just as fast as before.

I bought all the right parts, and replaced the battery and it turned on and works correctly and charges fine. No water damage and minimal dropping damage. Nothing is cracked.

But it does not hold a better charge with the new battery. I put the back light on low, shut off all apps I am not using, have manual data retrieval on, turn off wifi when I'm not using it, etc. All the battery tricks of the trade.

Is this because of IOS 7? Or is there a different problem with my phone? Is there a certain charging pattern I should follow? (Let it die completely then charge? Charge at 50%, etc?)

iPhone 4S: Do you really have to remove the battery to replace rear camera?

I have ordered a replacement 4S rear camera which will hopefully fix my 4S. In reviewing iFixit and other tutorials for the repair, all mention first removing the battery before proceeding.

Is this actually necessary? The battery doesn't seem to physically obstruct anything with the camera replacement. Perhaps it is necessary to cut power to the phone components?

It seems the battery only charges when plugged in and powered OFF! If it is on and plugged in, the battery will drain but at a slower pace.
