iPhone 5c: After battery replacement, my phone keeps resetting itself.

A few days ago, my friend dd a battery replacement on my iPhone 5c. The phone is completely up to date and I haven't experienced any issues before this.

After the replacement, the battery lasted for about 4 hours before completely dying. After plugging it in, the phone started rebooting by itself every few minutes. After messaging him about it frantically, he told me that it's just the battery and it's because it's new.

Calming down, I took the phone off of the charger, and it stayed on the same percentage-while functioning okay- for several hours. Knowing that this isn't normal, I restarted my phone, only for it to start doing the weird rebooting thing again.

Last night, after reading from several websites, I let it completely die and charge to 100% all night. When the phone was off, the battery wouldn't charge, so I kept the phone on, opting to just not mess with it.

Today, the rebooting thing has still been happening every few minutes-it's quite frustrating to say the least. For about six hours this afternoon I didn't mess with it at all-and it went from about 100% to 20% in that time span-the percentages jumping up and down a few times.

So here are my questions:

Did I get a faulty battery-is that what's up?

Did my friend just mess up my phone?

What do I do? I can't function on a phone that resets itself every few minutes.

Thanks for the help in advance!

iPhone 5c: iPhone 5c dropped > screen blacked out

I dropped my iPhone 5c the other day and watched the screen slowly fade to black. No cracks or anything, the fall couldn't have been from more than waist high onto concrete. The phone fell with the screen up. I've experienced symptoms that have progressed as follows:

First the screen showed a row of white squares at the bottom and that was it. The phone would still ring and I could still answer and field calls with the headset button. When I plugged it in to my computer it would make the "bong" noise every nine seconds or so.

I turned it off and then on again and the squares disappeared. The backlight was still on, while the screen was still nothing but black it was brighter than nothing at all. I could still answer calls and even attempt to communicate with Siri (who would tell me I couldn't access his/her help until I unlocked the phone, which I couldn't do).

I came home from work to a dead phone the next day, I charged it up and now the screen won't illuminate at all, and I can't seem to turn it on and field calls with it anymore. No matter what I do it will no longer ring or make any notification sounds other than the "bong" every nine or so seconds when I have it plugged in to my computer or an outlet.

I've opened it up with the proper tools and checked the cable connections, everything seems in order. What I'm worried about is the possibility of ordering a new screen/display/lcd unit from ifixit and finding out that there is something wrong with the backlight or something worse.

Is there any explanation for why the phone suddenly stopped fielding calls or even ringing? Is there any explanation for the backlight to stop illuminating the screen, even on a blacked out screen?

Any help at all is greatly appreciated. I'd like to figure this out myself and fix it, but I can't pull the trigger without having some belief that I'm doing something that will actually be productive.

iPhone 5c: iPhone 5c Rear Camera and Flashlight Failure

My iPhone 5c rear camera has stopped working. When opening the camera app the front facing camera works but the rear appears black.

Additionally, when attempting to use the flashlight the icon is grayed out. The flashlight will not start when it is pressed.

I think that I have ruled this out the possibility of this being a software issue. I have rebooted, restored, and update the phone with no change in behavior.

I need to know how the rear camera and flashlight are connected. Do they both connect to the logic board? Is there a sub board that they both connect to?

Should I replace the entire logic board in this case?

I am going to pop the phone open and see what I can see.

iPhone 5c: Black screen, constant vibrating plugged in?

I have had my Green iPhone 5c with AT&T since March 2014, I have taken great care of this phone, I used it regularly and dropped it maybe once or twice on carpet, nothing ever major. Top left corner of my phone popped out but it never seemed to mess with the function of my phone at all so I left it be. On September 26th of this year I was out at dinner and dropped the phone on its face and once I picked it up the screen was completely black, but lit, as if the back light of the phone was still on. I tried restarting the phone, charging it, and even calling and texting myself from my friends phone. While the phone was still showing apparent signs of life as in, vibrating, playing ringtones and sounds of screen shots and charger connections, the screen was still lit but completely black. After I could not find why my phone was messed up I let it sit and die for a few weeks. I then plugged it into my computer with the charger and it did not light up in black like it was doing before. The phone then started to vibrate, continuously every 5 seconds while plugged up. I have tried to hold the home and power buttons but that apparently only turns the phone off like I expected. I opened up iTunes and it just asks me to "respond on iPhone" and I cant obviously and the phone keeps vibrating every 5 seconds. I want to fix this phone since I have been using an old iPhone 4 for the past month and cannot take it anymore. Im hoping this is something simple and will take all the help I can get. Thank You!

P.S. I have not done ANY repairs on this phone, no screen, battery, etc. replacement. It is the original phone I purchased.

iPhone 5c: 5c date/time wrong and constantly searching for network

Hi - my 5c currently won't keep the correct date and time even though it says New York Time zone. I've tried the following:

1.) setting manually - can't select the current date/time - it keeps scrolling past 2016 and takes me back to odd years including 1970 and 2032. This wasn't always the case. A few weeks ago when I had this problem, I was able to set manually.

2.) restarting my phone

3.) resetting my the network settings

4.) putting airplane mode on/off.

Any ideas for how I can fix my phone myself?

As for phone history, I have replaced the screen a few times using both the Apple store and the company iGeeks. I regret buying the 5c because I have always had some sort of issue with it, but never did with my previous iphones. Would I be better off buying a new phone?

iPhone 5c: iTunes error #1 and reflowing

Hello ifixit!

Ive been plagued forever by iTunes error #1 and have decided its time to learn how to fix it, or at least attempt to. I have a stack of iPhone 5c's on my desk that all give error #1 at about 75% way through the restore. These particular devices are not water damaged. Some of them will come on, but will not restore. Most of them show an apple logo for about 5-10 seconds and then they shut themselves off.

I've heard a lot about reflowing/reballing the baseband chip(or nand chip) but I can't find too many specifics about it. I'm new to the reflow scene in all together, with only a few successful reflows. Is this the right direction to head for error #1? I have a heat gun, a soldering iron, a toaster oven, and an IR BGA rework station. I've seen so many different methods, I'm just not sure what would be most successful. Any help with the specifics on what max temperature should be on an iPhone PCB and length of time would be appreciated.

Also, is something like reflowing a baseband chip an actual fix? Or should I be replacing these components all together? I don't want to put a bandaid over an issue that comes back 2 weeks later in the customers hands.

And to note, I have tried reflowing 3 of these baseband chips on error #1 phones with no success. 2 of them did not change all, I used kapton tape to cover what shouldn't be heated, and used the low setting on my heat gun for about 60 seconds. The other phone, I used the high heat setting for 60 seconds, and well, that phone doesn't do much now.

Any help at all is greatly appreciated!

iPhone 5c: How do I get rid of the black hole on my screen?

So my screen was already a little cracked but nothing was going wrong with my phone, so I just carried on. But as of yesterday, my phone got dropped and new cracks appeared, as well as a black dot (what I call 'the black hole') which is at the top left corner area of my screen. A few people have said it could cost up to $199 to get fixed. Some people said it was dead pixels, or the led lights went out, or it was oil??
iPhone 5c: Is my wife being ripped off by repair shop?

Hi guys. I'm looking for some advice. A couple of months ago my wife's phone screen went dark. Still usable, but everything was darker. I imagine this is what happens when you have a backlight problem, but not an expert.

Then last week the screen went off altogether and it appeared the phone wouldn't turn on. However I could connect it to my Mac and get the option enabled up in iTunes to back up the device. I couldn't actually back it up though, as there is a passcode on the phone and iTunes won't back up a device until you enter it. Without the screen I couldn't do this.

The phone also kept vibrating/beeping every few seconds. I read that this can signify an issue with the battery connection.

So my wife took it to our local independent repair shop to get it looked at. Several days later, they've said there's an issue with the screen which they'll replace, and they're taking the data off for her, which they're currently 20% through, and it will take several days for it to complete. They want about £140 GBP for the full service, of which about half is the data recovery part. The rest is the screen and diagnosis.

To my mind this doesn't stack up.... if the problem is screen or battery, why do they need to run a long data recovery process? Wouldn't the data stay intact if they repaired those issues? Secondly, can any data recovery with an 8gb phone really take days to perform, or are they just trying to make it sound like a bigger job than it really is?

If anyone with more knowledge of this than me could advise I'd appreciate your insight!

Thank you for your help

Nick
