iPhone X: iPhone Bootlooping while only when earpiece is plugged in

Hi, I’ve been doing repairs on phones and tablets for a while now (mainly screen replacements and such) but this is my personal device.

So I dropped my iPhone X in the sink. No big deal, I’ve done it a few times before and nothing has come of it. It’s IP67 rating, so it should’ve been fine. I understand now that the gasket wears out over time, but hindsight is 20/20.

A little while after I dried my iPhone off (it was still working perfectly), I put it in my pocket and forgot about it for a few hours. I take it out of my pocket to find that it was bootlooping.

I’ve looked all over online to see what the cause of this was, and I decided to open up my iPhone. The insides looked fine. There was a little condensation on the rear camera glass, but nothing major. I decide to try to boot the phone without the earpiece assembly plugged in, and it worked!

Great, I thought. I’ll just replace the assembly and all should be well. Then I look up how much it is, and see a note at the bottom of the page.

“The Earpiece Speaker and Sensor Assembly is paired to the logic board in an iPhone X. This assembly contains the flood illuminator, which is part of the Face ID security feature. Replacing this assembly will not restore Face ID functions. “

Now I feel like garbage. This is my personal phone, I’ve only had it for about a year, and my dreams of just replacing a part to get it like new again is gone.

Now for the questions. I understand that the earpiece assembly is paired to the logic board. Is there any way whatsoever to spoof the pairing of the two?

I didn’t find any visible damage on the assembly itself, not even the ribbon cable. But the connector on the logic board looks like it has a few dark spots on the top right few pins. Is there any way of cleaning the logic board up and possibly getting it to work?

Should I just cut my losses, lose face id, and just replace the assembly?

Should I just take the assembly out and lose the ability to use the speaker and have the iPhone adjust brightness levels automatically? Also along with face id?

In other words, I’m just looking for suggestions on what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

iPhone X: Why does my phone not finish Extracting Software on iTunes?

So my phone has been stuck in Recovery Mode for quite some time. But every time I open iTunes and try to go through the process where I can Update or Restore, my serial number suddenly becomes unreadable or 'non-applicable' and the entire buffering stops. In fact, it buffers to the very end with 'Downloading Firmware' and seems as though it has an inch left. What would be the reasons behind this, such as why it can't extract the software. Has my phone slipped into a state where iTunes can't read it? Thanks a lot for those who answer!

iPhone X: Face ID can not be activated after soldering i2C flex cable

Hello guys, I would like to get some help with a strange issue that I came across.

I have repaired an iPhone 11 and 11 Pro with FaceID issue. I will go through the process step by step. First I attached the original FaceID flex to the i2C programmer and read its values. After that I connected the new i2C and wrote the original flex values. Then I desoldered the chip from the flex, removed the mosfet and did the neccessary jumper. After that I soldered the chip to the new flex and attached it to the i2C programmer. The test showed pass, I also checked under camera and all 4 spots of the projector light up correctly. Being happy that I did a good job I assembled back everything and started the phone. Now I am greeted with a “FaceID can not be activated on this device” message. I was thinking maybe my flex is bad so I took a new i2C, copy and write the data, desolder the chip and resolder. Assembled back everything and the error still pops up. I thought okay lets solder the chip back to the original flex. Now the error is gone but ofcourse FaceID doesnt work. I have the same issue with an iPhone 11 and an iPhone 11 Pro. What do you think, what could be the issue? I did around 25 repairs before without any issues.

iPhone X: Progressive failures: bluetooth/wifi, screen, audio

iphone X has had a series of unfortunate events over the course of a year, in the following order.

Bluetooth reception stopped working -- intermittently returns and will stay if the phone is not moved or jostled.

Battery needed replacement. Wi-Fi chip was bad per diagnostics at Apple store at the time the battery was replaced.

# Wi-fi connectivity lost. Wifi grayed out. Returned once, just long enough for me to update iOS to 16.02.

Screen intermittently unresponsive to touch. A reset will get in working again.

Earpiece speaker became static-y and dim AND bottom speaker stopped working at the same time. Wired earbuds still work.

iPhone X: iPhone X Face Id after Screen replacement

Hello everybody

I had my iPhone water damaged lately and I got it out of the water working then it started to restart in a loop, so I just turned it off and let it dry for about 4 hours, after that I tried to turn it on, it worked perfectly but face id was not working, I could see moisture in the front and camera lenses so I put it in rice all the night . Then in the morning I tried to turn it on , it did but after 5 min the screen went yellow and black bars appeared all over the screen and then it just turned off, but I can still hear sound effects like charging effect . so I knew that the screen just died .i decided to repair it.

If I replace the screen what else should I replace to make the face id work again, Many people said that whatever I do I cant get the face id again unless I take the phone to apple .

PS I live in Lebanon where there are no apple stores sadly.

iPhone X: Purple spots on the screen is sign of damaged or faulty new screen?

Hi Techs,

We replaced brand new iPhone X screen a few months back. And 20 days after using that iPhone X, customer complaint that there were few purple spots appear on the screen and in few hours or days whole screen goes blank but phone is ON on the back.

I believe that purple spots on the screen after few weeks of using the screen is clearly sign of accidental damaged by the customer and hence it does not valid for warranty claim. Sometime, whether consciously or unconsciously screen LCD may get hard press or damaged unknowingly or unconsciously.

iPhone X: Phone Not Recognizing Sim Card

Hi there

I have an iPhone X that is not seeing the sim card. The real problem I’m having is that the Apple online chat turned it into a brick! Before their “handiwork” at least I could use everything except the cell service!

One day the phone stopped seeing the sim card. I did the usual - turning off/on etc. Didn’t fix the problem.

I was on the online chat with Apple who assured me that the problem would be solved with a full phone reset. I did this…and you guessed it, the phone didn’t see the sim card. Not only that, but the phone now can’t be activated. It sits with the “It may take a few minutes to activate your iPhone” message for some time and then says it’s unable to activate.

Obviously I’d like to get the cell service working as well as activating the phone.

The phone has not been in water. It has a small bit of damage to the rear glass, but this was done months before the sim card problem.

My bills are of course paid and the cell service is active. This is proved by putting my sim card in another working handset and a known working sim card in my handset.

If anyone could recommend a solution, that would be great.

Thank you for your help in advance!
