iPod 5th Generation (Video): Working iPod with blank white screen

I just picked up a new Ipod from a garage sale, It works, but sometimes the screen turns white and you can’t see anything except for faded patches of what the screen should look like. This usually happens after the Ipod goes into sleep mode and the screen turns off, especially after staying in a pocket for a while. The screen only works properly if i leave the ipod untouched for a while and it will revert back to the original state after going into sleep mode.

It does make noise when locking unlocking and charging, is there a way I can determine if the connections are bad, or if i need a new display altogether?

iPod Classic: iPod won't connect to computer/iTunes and doesn't indicate charging

I replaced the hard drive in my iPod late model classic with an iFlash micro SD card. The old HD was definitely bad. Now when I plug it into a computer or charger nothing happens. It plays fine and traverses the menu with no issues. I was able to get it to connect to a computer a few times by rebooting it while it was connected via USB. The battery would show no charge if it was used for a while and if left on a charger it would charge the battery back up overnight. It does not brighten the screen when plugged in as it used to and doesn’t show it is charging. I replaced the battery thinking that was the issue but it did not help. Just trying to confirm if this is definitely the logic board at fault here.

iPod Classic: iPod Classic keeps saying "Use iTunes to Restore"

When the iPod boots/turns on, I get a message saying “Use iTunes to Restore.” And only a few times, did iTunes recognize my iPod and I was able to restore it. Other times, iTunes would tell me that the iPod is corrupted or nothing would pop up. There are also times, where when I press the SELECT + MENU to reboot the iPod, the iPod would display the message, then a few seconds the iPod would work as normal. (Displaying the menu) But, the message would substitute for the Apple logo boot screen, making me unable to see when the iPod is booted.

At this point, I mostly suspect that this issue is caused by the logic board, since when not inserting a hard drive or using a different working hard drive, it would still ask me to restore via iTunes.

In the image above, I’m not sure if those chips are normally suppose to be hot. But, the chip with the big Apple logo and the chip to the right of the display connector tends to be really hot.

I was wondering if anyone knows what parts of the logic board needs to be replaced via soldering, or if there are other troubleshooting steps that I have missed.

Thanks!

Steps Already Taken:

Changed HDD ribbon cable

Changed Hard Drive

Changed charging cable

iPod Classic: Why is my iPod dying?

Has always mad a wirring sound. Stops playing for 10 seconds then resumes. Was only stopping when plugged into computer but is now doing it in my car as well. Both my work and home computer advise me to "scan and fix" when I plug it in. Unfortunately if I do this it wipes all the music off. Sometimes is slow to respond to commands. Example-I push play on the dial and it will take several seconds to start playing. Never did any of the above (execpt the wirring noise) before. Given the age I don't know if it is A) able to be fixed or B) worth fixing. Please advise.

iPod 3rd Generation: iPod 3rd generation new assembly...

Hello, guys and happy holidays.

I used to have my iPod 3rd gen., which I loved, when I accidentally dropped it a long time ago that caused some issues, so I sent it to be repaired to some fly-by-night online company that shortly after closed down and kept my iPod to themselves…. :(

Hence my question to you:

Can you assemble for me a “shiny brand new” iPod 3rd Gen. with a 40Gb hard drive and if it’s possible, how much would it cost me?

Two more questions:

1.Would you use the original parts with the same AD/DA converters or it would be some cheap Chinese substitutes? I believe 3rd gen. converters are still superior to 5th gen.,

2. Could a larger than 40Gb drive be installed and/or even SSD/CF/SD, etc.?

Thank you,

iPod Classic: Danger in Charging an Old Device?

I had a 2011 MacBook Pro which had not been used in a long time. I charged it, and the battery inflated, possibly almost exploding (not sure). I mention this because now I am concerned about charging a disused iPod Classic.

Should I take any precautions when charging an iPod that has not been charged in a long time? Maybe charge it with a 500mA charger instead of a 1A or 2.4A? Do these things get ‘shocked’, so to speak, and become explosion prone? Or is this not an issue and I should just charge it up and start using it again?

Likewise, should I remove it from its case so it can expand more easily if it comes about?

iPod 3rd Generation: Blank Screen after logic board and battery change

Hi everybody,

I am stuck with the reparation of my iPod Classic 3rd generation (model A1040).

I had to change the logic board because a failure and, at the same time, install a new battery for better battery lifetime. I bought both things in eBay. My problem now is that I have a blank screen after the apple logo.

I can restart the iPod pressing Menu button + Play/pause button: the iPod restarts, the Apple logo appears, and then… blank screen.

I can activate the Disk Mode pressing Previous and Following buttons after an iPod restart. The screen shows that the Disk Mode is activated and I can plug the iPod to my Macbook. iTunes recognizes that an iPod with problems is connected and I have 2 options:

update the firmware version to a newer one.

Restore it.

I can not restore it because iTunes says that I need a FireWire connection that my laptop does not have. However if I try the same operation in windows (with iTunes for Windows) there is no problem and after restore it (or update the firmware version), a message appears for disconnect the iPod of the laptop, connect it to an external power supply and finish the operation.

Then, I restart the iPod to exit the disk Mode (pressing Menu button + Play/pause button), the ipod restarts, the apple logo appears, a progress bar appears and is completed and… blank screen again.

I have repeated the process many times and alwaus have the same result. Something strange is that always iTunes says that a new firmware version is available, so I can understand that the previous attempts to update do not work properly.

I would be very very grateful if somebody could help me with it.

I hope to not lose my loved iPod. =)

Regards
