This iMac is notorious for bad capacitors. It always seems to happen, even if it was well maintained. The reason is heat and capacitor plague. This is a very common failure. This is kind of Apple's fault, but the capacitors weren't. The heat the G5 puts out that helps kill them is.

Even if you can replace the caps, no. This thing will keep doing it time and time again due to the G5 heatheat output PPC G5 processors are notorious for. The displays also fail a lot in them. Thesethem too and these use Apple specific TDMS panels. In other wordspanels and you need the knownhave to failuse the Apple part. Once the screen goes into vertical lines, it's done. You cannot substitute it at all in this model.

These are not worth fixing. Sell it as-is to some collector who fixes everything Apple and move on. Get a new iMac that isn't a piece of garbage that won't fail the same way. Just don't get the 21.5" 1.4GHz model.
