There are several different reasons this could be happening. First, reset your camera by removing the SD card and batteries and then try again. If you still have a problem, clean the lens with a q-tip of any dust or other obstructions that may be jamming the lens. Lastly, gently tap the lens to see if it unjams. If none of these options work, the lens itself might need to be replaced.
