Is it possible to replace the operating system?

This is an older one of their smart TVs and no longer receives support. That means that many of the smart T.V. functions, such as Netflix, no longer work. For the reason I was wondering if there was any way to replace the OS to their newer one or anything else like ubuntu or linux. Or should I simply buy a roku or apple T.V. or something?
