@mamabooski sounds like you are having issue with the OS not being found. Possibly caused by a bad hard drive. try and start your computer from a bootable CD. Try something like a Live Linux CD. See if you can access your BIOS:
 
To run the BIOS Setup Utility:
 
1 Turn on the notebook.
 
2 Press F2 when the Press <F2> to enter Setup prompt appears on the bottom of the screen.
 
Use the left and right arrow keys to move between selections on the menu bar.
 
Go to the BOOT menu and wseesee if it sdisplaysdisplays your Hard drive. There set your CD-DVD drive as the first bootable device and hit F10 when done. then try. Should your computer come up you know that it is the HDD or OS. Let us know so we can assist you further.
