Why won't my toaster latch when lever is pressed down?

Toaster is a Professional Series PS77401. When lever is pressed down, the elements light to toast bread but the lever will not lock down. I have the toaster apart and the spring is good. It seems like the magnetic armature is not energizing where the two red wires are connected. No lights will light by the defrost, reheat or bagel buttons. Any suggestions are appreciated.
