If you cannot connect, then you may have a  newer controller trying to pair with an older stick.. I have found that the Nvida Shield Game Pad  is compatible with the Fire Tv Sticks/Boxes.  Try and find a used one for around $20 on Offerup, Ebay, or Letgo.
