What you want to do is find an old version around 9 or 10-ish.
Right-click the installer, and select compatibility mode for Windows 7.
Install using Compatibility mode.
Right-Click the iTunes icon and also set that to run with Compatibility mode for Windows 7.
Here is a little about the history of the device.
Original firmware 1.0 had nothing but basic functionality.
The 5 apps such as calculator was a package add-on of $25.
The next firmware update was another $10.
The 3rd and last charged firmware update was $10, and included the $25 5-app package.
I think if you have never purchased those, you can reflash an old firmware, but it will not have the 5-app package.
