The USB bus is not known for sustained speeds - I don’t expect the performance you get out of a SATA, AHCI (PCIe) or NVMe bus on any of them. The drive is probably fine. I've seen it where WD/HGST are more reliable for me; I've had more problems with Seagate than WD/HGST and have seen WD's survive things we're told they shouldn't.

I know I’ve pulled older ones from dropped notebooks that were trashed and they continue to work, albeit with calibration issues that render the drive unusable. The newer ones *can’t* take that kind of a beating because of the higher densities, but they’re by far the ones I’ve had the best luck with along with HGST.
