Same problem here, works fine if a Thunderbolt Display or Ethernet adapter is connected, random shutdown if nothing is connected to Thunderbolt. Took to Apple Store Genius who ran hardware diagnostics, no problems found. Suggested I back-up computer and reinstall OS, which I did. Problem still occurs.

Thinking the issue is related to the Thunderbolt driver as others have stated, but not wanting to disable the Thunderbolt functionality, tried the other solution mentioned. I was skeptical but this is working.
