If the AWD light comes on then the vehicle dies it is most likely the vehicle overheating/malfunctioning and the system powering off to prevent more damage to the engine. Try making sure you have plenty of coolant in the radiator coolant reservoir and that your radiator is not leaking or damaged in any way.
