Hey Mike,
Your Chromebook does this to keep your Google Account safe, and prevents others from accessing or changing your account. Although if you still wish to keep this from happening then you can go into ***Settings*** then ***Screen lock and Sign-in.*** From there just turn off "Show lock screen when waking from sleep".
Again, I recommend that you don't disable this feature as it is a security feature, but this is the process you would want to use if you still want to do this.
