@bigtrifles the answer by @erelectronics is absolutely correct and appropriate. I just want to add another option that has worked for me a few times. This does not apply to drives that " ***if the HDD makes any clicks, pops, stutters, grinding, etc. noises, STOP USING IT IMMEDIATELY"*** This only applies to drives that are not having any mechanical (that make sounds) issues .
Common failure on those drives is actually the controller board. You can identify that board by simply looking at the numbers that are printed on it. You can replace those boards with, most of the time, readily available boards. It is not as complicated as it might sound, and a lot of data recovery use the same methodology.
