My MacBook Pro has a fully loose display hinge. After taking it apart, I believe what happened is that the holes where the hinges are press fit into the display assembly have been stripped but I’m not 100% sure since I don’t have an example on hand of what the press fit points are supposed to be like so I’d appreciate a knowledgeable second look. Both the left and right hinges easily fell out of the display assembly. There’s dark gray substance that seems like graphite on the push fit pin and flakes of it are spilling out of the push fit hole. I don’t know why a lubricant would be here though. Maybe it’s ground up aluminum?

This is the most closely related existing thread I could find:

From searching online, my understanding is that there aren’t any removable pieces on the display so the only full fix would be a replacement display. Considering the age of the laptop and the cost of a replacement display, I don’t think it would make financial sense to go that route. Are there any recommendations for a hack repair? The obvious option is to try glueing the hinges in place. Any strong opinions for how to prep the surfaces or what adhesive to use?

Thanks!
