Soldering new backlight IC and coil onto logic board

Screen does not work on iPhone. iPhone had some water damage. I've been testing continuity between pins and contacts and it has seemed pretty good so far. I have been using http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/GgDNm... as a guide of how to test the continuity. The LCD screen and digitizer are both not working. Would replacing the "backlight IC and coil" make them work, or is that only a step in the right direction? I'm lookin for a guide to replace them, if someone can please help.

Thanks a lot!

You need a known good screen to test the backlight coil. If you can not see anything even in strong light then you have more than a backlight issue. I start with a good screen and then if I have a dim screen that can be made out in strong light. I would change the coil.

Update

You need to resolver the pins on the LCD connector where they are burned black. The bottom pin on the LCD connector on the right side controls the backlight if it is burnt make sure to resolder it.

I tested the logic board with a brand new screen, absolutely nothing. Then again, the connection bar looks quite a bit charred, but I've been tested the continuity. I have yet to pick up a solder kit, but I found a good 2 in one for 90 bucks. I'm looking for a good guide to replacing these, does it exist?
