I need help with trackpad reassembly

A huge glass of hot, sugary tea was spilled on the keyboard of our Mac book Air 11.6" computer. It ran pretty well, we frantically blow dried it, etc. After that: *de nada*! I took it apart & carefully dried everything. Stunningly, it started up this morning. The problem: everything works but the keyboard & track pad. The news is mainly good: a USB mouse gave me access to everything, except the ability to type. So, I took it back apart. I found instructions online for just about everything. However, there is a cable that connects to the track pad--it has a blue end and appears to have tiny little copper connectors in it. My question/problem: I can't figure out to what on the track pad I should connect it, or how. It is NOT the cable that connects the track pad to the logic board. I seriously need to know, from anyone who can tell me, what this thing is and how I can ensure that it is properly connected. Thanks in advance for your help!

ZIF connectors use cam locks. without good lighting and a magnifier it can be almost impossible to realize/find the cam flap. Study these images and directions. The lock must be loose (open) up for the cable to slide in... then pushed down to close.
