iPhone 3GS ios 6.1 wifi issues

Hello All,

I have factory unlocked iphone 3gs, ios 6.1, modem firmware 05.16.08. Before upgrading to ios 6.1 the iphone wifi was working like a charm. but after the update, the wifi signals are really very weak. When i go near a router like literally under the router, i can connect to the wifi. when i move away few steps the signals disappear. I am really worried as i have been to mnay websites, but there is no solution. Mostly say it is ios bug buttt i think that there is a possibility that the wifi antenna might be faulty or weak. I am really thinking to change the wifi antenna but i am very worried that after repairing, the phone might get some new issues. it is not opened so far never repaired. I love my phone. Apple's support is not available in my country. Please suggest.

Hi

I meet the same issue with my iPhone 3GS.

WiFi is only available near the box...

Help !

Same problem for me with an IPhone 3GS. I was using my phone on wifi in 4 different locations every day and after the update I've lost about 50% of signal strength apparently, which is obviously not true, since everything else seems to work just fine.

Got the same problem.

However I'm not sure yet wether it's software or hardware related. I already checked my connector #6 (a very common problem when having wifi-range issues; see Step 10 in this guide), but it looked good so far.

Now I'm thinking about getting a new wifi antenna. Does that make sense or should I wait for an update?

Cheers.

i ordered a new wi-fi antenna (3€ at the bay) and it came with the mail today. I just replaced it (took a while, but worked fine following this guide).

And, lucky me: My wi-fi works smooth again!

I get a perfect signal in my room, far away from the wi-fi-router (haven't tried other networks yet, however, it shows me other routers as well).

Conclusion: Instead of blaming the software alone, it might be worth, having a look at the hardware, too.

Cheers,

J.

Hello All.

Unfortunately i have no good news. There seems to be some type of hardware bug which causes the WiFi antenna to malfunction. So, I am no longer a apple user. I have switched to android and i love it. Its the same as iPhone was before bugs :D

Here are the findings.

Before updating my iPhone to ios6. My WiFi was working fine.

After updating i was having low or inconsistent signals they kept dropping and thus no joy.

I tried to reinstall ios6 but same thing.

Did factory restore. Same issue.

Reset network settings. Same issue.

Updated to ios 6.1, same issue.

I tried to revert it back to ios5 and i had the same WiFi antenna issue. which before installing ios6, was working fine with installed antenna.

So here is my conclusion, if you have ios5, dont fu****g update to ios 6. enjoy whatever version is on your phone when you purchased it. If unfortunately you buy a new one and have same issues, then you are doomed. get android and get a life.

I didnot install new antenna cause i thought it will not work fine. Any body can try but at their own risk.

I hope this helps

android is full of bugs too..anyone who thinks that one is better than the other is naive. I have android and apple phones, take a look on the forums and you'll see no end of complaints when there is a new software release. Oh, and you forgot that sometimes it takes a year or more for the new version software to be written for your phone. Wifi issues have been a consistant PITA with apple and software updates..
