Is it possible to replace my G4 motherboard and processor with Intel?

Hi.

Is it possible to install an Intel processor (and a motherboard, of course) in my Power Mac G4 AGP Graphics?

I'm running Linux (Kubuntu) and Mac OS on the computer, but everyday there is a new developper that stops supporting PPC. So, I have two choices:

- I can buy a PC or assemble a PC and run Linux easily on it (and have Mac installed on a virtual machine or something simiar)

or

- I can keep my G4 case and most of its components and install an Intel processor.

I prefer the second option, but I would like to know if it is possible and how.

Hi, Recommended third choice- save your current machine to run older software and buy a core2dou MacMini (2007 or newer) as your main computer. This will also allow you to run Snow Leopard easily and I believe you could run Lion if you can find it. Total cost should be between $200 and $400 dollars and you are good to go. This would be the least complicated and expensive option also. Good luck.

You can replace the entire motherboard with a new motherboard but this would require replacing everything except your disk drives (and maybe something else.) And it would not really be a mac anymore, you would not be able to run OS X directly on it, however you can run Linux or Windows and have OS X in a VM.
