Can't get signal or get very poor signal after removing mod

Hi there.

A few months ago I did the iPhone 4s glowing apple logo mod phone worked fine but I broke the back and had to take the mod out. After I did that (I had to remove the battery at one point because I dropped a screw in the gap) my phone would get little or no signal. I assumed I had damage the signal antenna somehow when I took the battery so I replaced that with an after market one but still no or little signal.

The Phone can only really get signal outside now and even then it can drop out at any point.

Any ideas?

I was considering replacing the motherboard but obviously that's a last resort.

Additional information about the light mod:

You install a small light square behind the glass back (and you replace the back with one that has a clear apple logo)

The device draws power by resting a wire on a small point on the motherboard http://modmyi.com/attachments/forums/har... .

I'm not sure what I've damaged when removing the wire.

Did you have to solder to "mod" it, as well as to remove the mod?

oldturkey03 No solder used. Just sticky pads and a bit of blu-tac.

Cameron, I copied your image from Flickr to here. Not everyone has an open network, at all times, to access any of the social media sites:-).

That particular capacitor is part of your forward facing camera and should not interfere with your antenna. You can of course check it with a proper capacitance meter, it is a 4.7UF 6.3V cap. I am more concerned about the 15V-17V power connection coming of the ribbon cable :) Right now this may all be a red herring, I am sure you already checked, but make sure that your "blue inductor is still intact. The symptoms you are describing sound a lot like it.

I have looked at this and my idea of what is happening is that the "connecting point", which is a resistor or capacitor has had part of the metal stripped off of it. From what I can tell the section of the motherboard where this is located it is part of the touch controller, audio codec, flash memory, or main processor. From what I understand the metal edge is used as the antenna and if I'm right that cap. or resistor is very close and possibly directly related to the main processor and is the probable cause of the loss of reception. The cap. is used like a momentary battery so when the processor needs more power it can discharge and give it a bit more power (a bit like nos in a car). Any way, unless you want to put a new cap. on there just replace the motherboard, or possibly cheaper, just buy a new phone.

Hope this helps,

John Laney: A new motherboard is cheaper than a new 4s? That can't be right?

My bad, I assumed. I figured that since that is the case with my older computer that this was similar. My bad.
