iPhone seemingly stuck in a boot loop - suspecting bad battery.

I have an iPhone 4 that, when connected to power, will display the Apple logo for around 10 seconds before shutting off. It continues to repeat the process. Normally, I would consider this just a boot loop, so I put it into recovery mode. However, I cannot get iTunes to recognize it (tried on a Windows laptop and a Macbook Pro).

Upon disconnecting the iPhone from the computer, the phone immediately shuts off. Holding the lock/power button, I can't get it to do anything when not connected to the charger.

I suspect a dead battery. Can anyone confirm this, or let me know what else might be going on?

hey. i have the same problem. as soon as i remove the cable it shuts down and i cant do anything. i'm also suspecting a bad battery because the backcase puffed out for about 2 mm directly there where the battery is located. so it seems to me like an extremly dead battery.

already ordered a new one. i'll tell you more after repair.

hope it would solve the prob and it isn't a logic board problem.

I tried the same thing with no luck. Continued the problem. I'm afraid my situation might be something logicboard related. Any idea how much Apple charges to fix this stuff? I know it's sometimes a flat all-inclusive repair fee.

I have exactly the same issue. Iphone 4 wont turn on unless connected to PC, and continually goes through a boot loop. I'm guessing a bad battery.

However, I went one step further. I have one of those battery pack cases, so I put my phone in that. It turns on fine and boots up ok, but itunes will not see it. Shortly after I plug in the USB cable, it reboots and goes back into the boot loop.

If, however, I put it into recovery or DFU modes, then itunes sees it ok. Restoring brings up an error 1394 every time.

I'll replace the battery and see what happens.
