Won't start after repairs

Hi,

I replaced the motherboard in my ipod in 2011, and recently the HDD after the old one started to click. The new drive works when plugged in to laptop but not when plugged to ipod. I replaced battery also.

The connection to the headphone jack is broken on the mother board so I glued it in place, but also noticed the cable is ripped. Would the Orange hold button, if pressed on at the time of failure, stop the ipod from starting up? What else could this be? I really want to repair this but may be forced to buy new as repairs are costing too much!

Thanks

Alan, "connection to the headphone jack is broken" if you glued the connector to the board, it may not make any contact. Post an image of your repair and the broken part with your question. This will help us to see what you see. Yes, it is possible that this is part of why your iPod does not start. It all depends on how you plug the HDD into your laptop versus the iPod, it is possible that you have a bad HDD cable, but this should not prevent your iPod from coming on. I strongly suggest you fix the headphone/hold switch cable and take another look at your connector repair. Follow this guide to get it done. Hope this helps, good luck.

DO you think the Hold button could be stuck in the 'On' position resulting in the ipod not coming on? Thats my main question really.
