Mini-DVI port apparently has failed. Is it possible to replace?

Previously working mini-DVI port stopped working on 17" Intel iMac. Is it possible to repair/replace this port? Or even get parts?

I don't think so. Such repair would be a very advanced DIY.

A less complicated repair would be to replace the logic board. That too would be a very advanced DIY as you basically have to completely dismantle, then reassemble the machine.

Do some research as to the costs involved. You might find a repair shop locally, or online that could replace the port (probably from recycled parts). . . It might be more cost effective to part out your machine.

Good Luck,

Sorry for the delay in response! Thanks for the reply, machead3. I kinda suspected that was the case, but needed confirmation, I guess. Oh well, maybe I'll run across one that's broken in a different section...

A workaround would be to use a Firewire or USb "video export" black box or video camera. From this you could to connect to an external monitor. Generally these devices are used to export video to recording devices. I am not aware of a converter that does DVI (google / bing is your friend).
