Won't turn on and the Magsafe light stays green

I was sitting around on my computer when it ran out of battery and died. I plugged it back in and now it does not charge, the light stays green and does not turn amber. In addition, when it is plugged in and press the power button the sleep light indicator flashes rapidly and is accompanied by a beeping noise. Don't know what to do.

I have similar problem with an old MacBook Air 2008 which I am trying to squeeze a bit more life out of. 6 months ago I replaced the battery, but we have been away due to Covid so it hasn't been charged all that time.

The battery has 0 percent charge now, But it says the battery life is good and it hasnt been cycled at all. (It only runs on the charger).

When I charge it the charger connector LED is amber for at least 20 minutes then it goes green. So you would assume it has got enough charge. It will not boot on battery only. But when I boot up, it still says the battery has no charge.

I have checked all the connections and resetting the System Management Controller.

Has anyone got any ideas what to try next?

Heres a good Apple TN on the boot-up process and the error codes: Startup sequence and error codes, symbols.

As your battery is drained its' possible the systems SMC confused. Follow this TN on reseting it: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC).

Let us know what you discover.

Just open the back cover of your MacBook Pro carefully, unplug the battery connection and plug it back again. close the back cover and switch on your MacBook Pro. That's it!

Tried the open case, unplug method, worked like a champ. Nice if you are not worried about voiding a warranty ;-)

MacBook Pro Late 2011 model, opened the back cover, removed the battery plug (careful as it's very sensitive and small, but openable), put it back in, close the cover, VOILA!!!! Charging is normal and sys info shows battery health normal. You are a hero!

But, why does this happen? LOL?

@Vijay Kanta Wish this was the case for me and my Early 2011 model with this issue. Still not charging for me.

@Ron Schultea They can't void your warrant for that.

I have a 10 year old MacBook Pro 13" that stopped charging suddenly after I had let it run down to 0% (charge light stayed green). I tried swapping charger, cleaning charge port, SMC reset. None of those worked. I removed the back and disconnected the battery leaving it for a few minutes. After reconnecting it worked perfectly. Incidentally, I have the original battery, my machine has been used daily for 10 years. The charge cycle count is 2,712 - well over the expected 1,000 cycles. The battery fully charges to 3602 mAh (62% of design capacity) which lasts 3 hours or more in unconnected use. There are no signs of swelling and I won't change it until it dies as it probably still has more life than a new cheap alternative might.

I had the same issue with that model...I tried the SMC reset a couple of times did not work, until I removed the battery from the macbook. Once I had the battery off i held the the power button (drained the caps)

and replaced the battery and the power cord and powered the machine on. It booted up like normal. I did experience a few issues when the magsafe plug was removed abruptly, had to drain the caps again and the status indicator light would blink 6 times...once the battery was replaced all was well again.

apple measures the battery in cycles that battery was just used up...

So I had the same problem only the machine (Macbook a1342) did not at all want to start.

Magsafe stayed green.

I replace the DC board and voila, the Macbook was back to live and magsafe light was orange. Charging went well and soon got on 20%

To see what would happen, I decided to unplug the magsafe from the machine while having the charger in the outlet. That I plugged the magsafe back onto the machine and I heard and saw a sparkle. Now the light states green but the charge seems normal. I am afraid the DC board is damaged again somehow and wonder why. The charger has the correct value 60W a1344 for the Macbook a1342.

I’ve replaced battery, MagSafe charger, DC board, and logic board. Tried the reset. All to no avail, the MagSafe is always just green.

So here is the lineage of my 13” MacBook pro-1278 keyboard stopped working used a spare until I purchased a new key board. Took it down installed and started up keys 1-9 still IN-OP shortly after maybe two uses and a software update it would not TURN on. I noticed a swollen battery so quickly bought a new one with no luck. I replaced the charging port thinking it was junk because it showed it was charged even when battery was unplugged with no luck still shows green. I have tried multiple charging units with the same outcome.

My MacBook does fix after removing back and unplugging battery….but why does it keep doing this? It's annoying to have to continuously remove the back ?
