Water damage to iPhone 5

I had a cup in my car holder that I thought was empty, I even looked at it and it looked empty. It was empty except for about an inch of water at the bottom where the ice had melted that I did not notice. I put the phone in it to have easy access to it. when I took it out of the cup about 15 min later I notice water dripping out of it. I started shacking the water out of the put in end ( that was the end that was in the water) I put some heat to it via a hair dryer (just light heat) I sat the phone in a upright position for the rest of the day. It is now in a bag with silica. is it toast?

Will, just like any other submersion, it is a bit of a guessing game as in how your phone will respond to a proper cleaning. The importance right now is to not turn it on, or trying to sync/charge it. Please remember that any dessicant is only a first aid. It will not prevent corrosion nor fix shorted SMD components. Remove the battery, and disassemble is right down to the logic board. clean everything with isopropyl alcohol (90%+) and a soft brush, including all connectors and cable ends. Check for any burned or missing components. You may have to repeat this step a couple of times. Once it is cleaned, reassemble it and replace the battery, then reevaluate for any real damage. Right now, everything will only be a guess, and the longer you wait the more corroded it will get. Hope this helps, good luck."
