How to put the original Apple led stand back after removing Vesa?

I used my desk mount a while with my Apple Led Cinema + Vesa mount.

Problem is that after putting the foot back on, I cannot get it to go back upright. There is some kind of latch preventing the stand from going upright and the little plastic card that came with the VESA kit does nothing to release this latch.

Getting the foot off was easy but getting it back on is proving to be very difficult. Any tips on how to get the stand to release back to it's upright position?

I have the reverse problem. I found a Thunderbolt Display lying on the ground with the other glass shattered across from where I live. I can buy a stand but have NO idea how to take the VESA mount off of it. I am going to try to see if it's repairable. I can get the glass, the LED display, new power cable connector set. Any ideas would be appreciated. I see lots of how to put the VESA mount on but absolutely NOTHING on how to get one off !

Yes, there is a latch which is getting in your way here. Do you have the VESA instruction sheet & tool still? it will show you how to disable it using the supplied plastic card. Here's a vid on the process follow it as if your putting on a new unit Vesa Mount adapter for iMac

Hello Dan, I greatly appreciate your fast reply. I bought this one instead of the official Vesa mount from Apple (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261247877728?s...), they only show me how to remove the stand but not installing back the stand :(

Where could i get a copy of instruction sheet from Apple :(

Please help.

Did you checkout the vid?

It worked for me . I took my credit card in landscape mode . used the side away from the numerical letters row. Just lowered the stand , inserted the credit card just 3-5 mm inside near to body to press the latch and simultaneously lifted up the stand . It was so easy.

The important thing to realize here, and why people have so much trouble, is that if you stick the card in, you're capable of hitting a springy latch WHICH IS NOT THE LATCH YOU NEED TO HIT. As someone on another site has pointed out, the latch in question is a thin bar just inside the opening, not the thing you can hit farther in if you stick the card in by an inch or so. You can only hit it when properly exposing all the screws and pointing a card up toward the Apple logo.

the tip to point the card up toward the apple logo did the trick!

As above, reinstalled the mount with this tip. Push the latch in, card does not go in very far at all and they you will hear a click and you then have to ease the card out as space is tight - that's why that original apple insertion card or vinyl type plastic is best - not a rigid credit card

This discussion at apple.com was quite helpful:

The latch mentioned in the instructions that releases the stand to move to the fully forward position needs to be pushed in again to allow the stand to move back to the normal upright position.

The latch that you push in with the card while you are removing the base is simply harder to hit when the unit is in the fully forward position. The card has a tendency to slide off the latch when you push up on it and there is much more space underneath the internal latch with the stand in the forward position so it's easier to miss it. The other trick to this is that the stand has a natural tendency to want to push back on the latch making it hard to move. You need to make sure that the stand is pushing all the way forward or the latch will be wedged on the stand and won't move.

When you have hit the latch and pushed it back and up you can move the stand back to the upright position and then release the latch.

Perfect! I wasn't aware that the latch release to allow the re-attached stand to tilt back upright was in a different location from the latch you use to release the stand to fold down and access the screws. The flexi cards with the Apple VESA kit were too soft, but a credit cart pushed up towards the Apple logo released the stand to the normal upright position without a click of any sort. Thanks!

This discussion was incredibly helpful to me, particularly the part where it said the latch is not deep in. Still, I was unable to get the latch to operate until I used an idea from another thread on this subject. I used an icing spreader, which has a thin stainless piece of metal on a wooden handle. It isn’t sharp, and has a rounded end. It was thin enough to go in the gap, and stiff and strong enough to move the latch.
