I just purchased two new 2G RAM sticks from ifixit and installed with the existing two sticks of 2G RAM. Computer when powered on beeps 3 times and screen stays black.
tried using just the ifixit RAM and wouldn't boot
tried reinstalling existing two sticks and it booted right up
does all four sticks need to be the same manufacturer?

THen you have bad RAM or damaged RAM slots. They do not have to be but it helps interleave RAM. They must be the right speed and installed completely. Try changing the RAM around and test one chip at a time.
