How do I figure out whether my display is broken?

I initially had a problem with the GPU. I have since replaced the GPU and had a working iMac again! For like 3 days, then the screen froze on me again. I've tried rebooting, and I still get the chime. If I wait long enough, and try playing with the volume controls on my USB keyboard, I can hear the volume change click. I do NOT, unfortunately have an external Monitor that I can try.

I have actually ordered and tried a replacement LVDS cable, but It still has not resolved the Issue. I'm concerned that in my troubleshooting of the GPU, I may have damaged the connector on the logic board, or something else. My next step is to try replacing the LCD, but I was hoping to see if anybody had any insight on my issue.

Thanks!

Have you tried to view the screen while holding a flash light to the screen? It is possible that the backlight has gone out on the screen and there is an actual image but it is just too dark for you to see without light assistance.

Yes, I have tried this already, I didn't see anything. Though I'm not sure if it was a bad angle or something. My assessment is that that doesn't work. I'm going to order a new screen and see if that doesn't solve my problems. how do I know if the connector at the logic board is bad?

Dave,

Most of the time if the LSVD connector at the logic board is bad the screen will be distorted and still have a backlight. The backlight is powered by separate connectors. Banking on a bad screen if you didn't get an image with the flash light. Worse comes to worse and the screens not bad you can turn around and sell it.
