HDD replacement : compatible model or not?

Hi everybody,

I've got a problem with my 2009's macbook, the HDD had troubles, and instead of format it, I would prefer upgrade it for a 500 Gb. And by the way up the RAM from 1Gb to the max I can.

I've read your excellent tuto, and in a shop the seller told me that the MQ01ABD050 model is not compatible with my mac, whereas you say it is.

The seller told me that it doesn't exist anymore compatible HDD for my Mac because Thailand's floods ... what do you think about this bull?

I don't know too which SATA's version my HDD is working with. Does SATA are compatible together or not ?

By the way, I've read different things about the max RAM I can use in my mac, sometimes 2 Gb, sometimes 6 ... I'm a bit confused about all of that, it seemed easy to do, but now I'm not sure about nothing.

Has someone had this problem before, and could help me ?

Thanks a lot !

Here's the information on your machine. Are you in Thailand? If not what does that have to do with a hill o beans?

The RAM information is in the link also.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

Thank you machead.

Now I know that my mac is running with a SATA1.

Could you confirm me that a HDD in SATA3 will be compatible with my mac, with only a reduce of the HDD's original speed ? The seller told me that he heard about problem, like a 500G HDD was seen as a 750 in the mac OS, or the opposite ...

I will buy 2 2Gb ram, more safer I think than a 2 + a 4Gb .

Thanks a lot.

No I can't - generally SATA only drops back one rev. I would want a warranty or guarantee from the vendor that if the drive didn't work there'd be no return or restock fee.

I everyone,

a friend give me a 500G to check it with my macbook, and it works !

It's a Toshiba MK5076GSX, so it's a SATA 2 with 8Mo. So i can't say if a SATA 3 could work with my model, but this one does.

Thank you machead for your help.

Ciao !

Yes - SATA automatic backward compatibly is ONE REV... sometimes you can manually jumper it back two or more...not always.
