Why does the screen keeps turning on/off after connecting to MBP13?

Hello, I have a question concerning the Apple Cinema Display 24" connected to Macbook Pro 13" (2010) with Mountain Lion installed on it. The screen keeps turning on and off constantly, so does the screen of the MBP. Both show the blue screen (normal while connecting any external display) than the desktop appears on ACD screen and a second later it goes back to blue and so on. While connected both screens flicker with blue screen, desktop, blue screen, desktop until disconnected. The built-in USB hub and charging work normally. Does anybody know what may cause the issue? Is it hardware or software? Thanks in advance for any help!

Seems to be a software issue. Do not upgrade to Mavericks… upgrade to latest Mountain Lion version. There's lots of chatter about BSOD and MntLn/Mavericks.

Thank you for reply machead3, but it's not a blue screen of death... It's just a standard blue flicker when you connect/disconnect external display. I think I'll try to downgrade the system, just don't have the time to reinstall all the stuff I need to work now. Any other suggestions?

This could be either a power cable problem, or a video cable problem.

Ensure your power cable is fully connected, check the voltage on the wall outlet.

Try a different cable or type of cable between the monitor and computer.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.
