My fan is making loud sounds all of a sudden then it slows down and then it seems normal again. Is this a sign that the fan itself is going bad. It is not the printer driver problem - I already checked that out. thanks for any help

when you make millions of parts using millions of other parts tolerances can become a crapshoot.
If you get an item were all the tolerances are out to one end or the other, or of mixed tolerances then early failure will result.
Could be age or hour failure too. That computer is four going on five years old, laptops by their nature get more abuse than desktops.
I'd get a replacement fan now before it fails at a crucial time,and/or overheating kills other parts on the LB.

a possible problem could be a dust issue - the dust prevents the airflow through the heatsink.
i normally use canned air to clean the heatsink and the fan

Hi, I have already taken computer apart and vacuumed dust out- but that was several months ago. It really sounds like the bearings are bad but im not sure..
Well, moving parts don't live forever.

its probably a wire thats loose and its hiting the fan when it turns on.

Well, now its fine, but then it will go into a period where it sounds like something is rubbing up against it. I might just take it apart again and give another vacuum. thanks for your help
