How do I distinguish memory slots?

I have 2x2GB memory in all 4 slots. Recently my computer has been running slower and I see the beach ball more often. Finally after searching your site I see the memory replacements and check the system information. It shows that I have only 2x2GB memory in bank1. How do I know which is bank1 when the new ram comes?

Thank you!

You have 4 GB of RAM working. This is probably a failing or full hard drive. Be sure to have a backup (an external hard drive would be best), you can also use Apple iCloud but it costs. Usually the slots to the left are bank one. Pull the RAM in slot two and see if the configuration changes. You may need to just reseat the RAM in slot two. If you are not getting any diagnostic beeps the old RAM is probably good. Here's how: iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2308 RAM Replacement

I back up the hard drive nightly after I learned the hard way what happens when a hard drive fails. Its a 1 TB and only 600GB is being used. I first started noticing the lag a few months ago and just thought it was too much online gaming. I realize when I first purchased the iMac they recommended that I put more ram in since the video card is small. Never had a problem with either the ram or browser gaming until a few months ago...
