Dull screen, liquid spill, laptop works but no display

Connected laptop via the thunderbolt to a VGA monitor, works fine, however the onboard screen doesnt display, well it does, but it is so faint you can hardly see it. What do I need to replace / repair? Serial number last 4 digits are: F5V8. Please help techies !

R Cuthbertson, "but it is so faint you can hardly see it" would be an indication that this is not a screen error but a backlight issue. Since your device suffered a "liquid spill" I strongly suggest that you disassemble it, and clean it properly with some isopropyl alcohol. Take a good luck at the LCD connector, check for corrosion, any loose, missing or burned component. The Macbook use a LED backlight and as such has a LED driver circuit, pay close attention to that. Double check your serial number, the one you posted does not yield any return for me. I suggest that you do not purchase any parts until you properly identified the real issue. Hope this helps, good luck.

I agree with you oldturkey. I would check the LCD connector/socket and the backlight fuse.

The liquid seems to have damaged the screen connection to the motherboard. I've seen similar cases in phones where there is corrosion build up around the cable connection and burn marks. You may need to have a technician get in there and clean it out, and if that doesn't fix the problem, you may need to get a screen replacement.
