Safe to assemble without LCD Shield?

I am not arguing the point of putting this ipad mini together without the parts, simply the perceived level of hazard it would present.

So is it worth it, or even safe to finish putting it back together without that metal shield under the LCD screen? I could and will order another one if need be. Somehow it got mixed up with scraps in the wrong pile and thrown out!! This ipad was a water damage repair and the shield was covered in corrosion so it probably looked like garbage.
