It's a bit of work. Here's the IFIXIT guide iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2389 GPU Card Replacement.
Be aware you must use the correct version of the board as the size is custom to Apple as well as the card drivers.

Thanks Dan, I missed that when I was looking through the tutorials. One more question. Do you know of any good tutorials for troubleshooting a gpu card?
Sadly there is not much one can do other than using an external monitor with your system to isolate out if the built-in display is having issues Vs the GPU. If the external display is working you have isolated the issue as being the LCD or the backlight circuits.
There is also a set of LED diagnostic lights near the memory modules (covered with a piece of tape on many) which can also help isolate out deeper problems.
