iPhone 5 Logic board repair needed

Hello guys,

I had a customer walking in my store today. She brought a iPhone 5 for a cracked display repair to a little repair shop around my corner. However, after they where finished with her iPhone 5 it doesn't respond to anything. No power at all, not even iTunes. So I thought its a logic board problem. I added a few pictures. The connector below the dock connector is damaged. Anyone knows what this is? And is this why there is no power? I found this picture on the internet: http://www.cyberdocllc.us/wp-content/upl... The pyramid coil is removed from this logic board, and there is damage below it as shown in my picture: http://i61.tinypic.com/qns7id.jpg

Also the EMC shield are removed by this repair shop. I am not sure, but it looks like the remaining EMC shields are wielded together so i can't take them apart.

Any advice how to get the phone working again?

@con

A new battery doesnt work. The phone also doesnt boot when i connect it to the power line with the connector disconnected. The shop takes no responsibility whatsoever, thats why the lady came to me.

@Jonathan

Thanks for the tip, but i am not really into soldering, let alone on micro level. I am just wondering if this damage is related to the no power.

- UPDATE

When i connect the iPhone to my mac i sais, disconnector the USB cable that uses too much power. So its definitely sucking up power, but somewhere in the circuit it goes wrong.

Sven Arits, that is reference designator Q2 which is a CSD75202W15 which is a dual FET utilized as a charging and USB control chip. Yes it definitely has to do with the power circuitry. Amazingly enough, it is not just missing, but somebody placed a jumper on it. check the middle row. This is usually performed when Q2 has failed. This is not accidentally. Anyhow, the EMI shield is soldered and would require desoldering, as well as reballing would be required for a replacement of Q2. Hope this helps, good luck.

You can unweld the shield from the board with flux and perhaps a little solder(only if needed) . Make sure you are giving the weld as much of your solder tip as possible. I would recommend a tip like the one all the way to the right in this image http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41...

I am not sure that this would be in any way cost effective to do this repair however on an iPhone 4s.

The jumper on Q2 is a common poor man's solution for no charging/fake charging of iPhone 5. The phone should still start up with a fresh battery despite this----does it?

No the phone doesn't start up with a fresh battery, its completely dead :( I am unsure what the other repair shop did with it. They had it for 4 weeks. The broke more then they fixed.

Then it has a bigger problem than this jumper.---I would worry that if the other shop gave up on it after having the expertise to try this jumper that they probably also tried some other blunt solutions---like blindly trying to reflow the whole board. In a no power situation with a fresh battery, the only thing you can do is force 3.8 V into the phone via a direct current power supply and see if the phone consumes too low amperage = a break in continuity somewhere. Or too high = a short somewhere. you might be able to find and correct the short using heat as your guide.
