iPod Classic 6th Generation. Model A1238 / 80, 120, or 160 GB hard drive / black or silver metal front

swapping an 80g back plate with a 120g back plate

I replaced the hard drive in my 80g iPod Classic (Thin body) and when I tried to snap the case back together, holy cow, the hard drive is too thick! Will the back plate of a 120g or 160g iPod Classic work with this? Is it a thicker back plate? Will the metal clips be the same as on the original 80g back plate?

Thanks for all the help guys from all my previous problems. I love this site!!

Well according to the product's page, that shouldn't be a problem, all the back plates are interchangeable. Tell us what kind of drive you purchased, maybe you purchased one that's the wrong size, in which case you can get one that would fit here.

Well, the hard drive label says:

Toshiba

Disk Drive MK8010GAH

I think it would be fine if I just bought the fatter back. I don't really have the money to buy another hard drive right now. What do you think?

Do you have any way of returning the drive?

tarafından

No, they won't let me return it. It's a good drive, refurbished and works just fine.

Try to assemble it again, pay careful attention to the teardown and see if you can do it.

No, didn't work. I even tried taking the foam off and it still won't go together. I guess I should just buy the back of a 120g.

Yeah the 120/160gb hard drives are dual platter which means they have two spinning disks instead of the one that the 80gb drive had. You need the thicker back plate.
