Computer will turn on, screen won't.

My computer will turn on, and it'll give me a couple seconds to go to the start up menu, but beyond that the computer screen stays blank. When I try the options on the start up menu it will just turn the computer screen blank. I've tried the removing battery and holding the power button. But that hasn't changed anything. I don't have the material to connect to another screen, let alone know how to do so.

My friend thinks it has something to do with a virus. I gave her my computer to try to fix and she said she found 9 trojans and several other minor viruses. It's a used computer and I can't afford a new one.

Any help is appreciated.

So its now just turning on and off, the screen. The computer is still running, but it'll spend like 3 seconds on the orange screen, go grayish like it's going to continue to start up and then black. And it will repeat until I turn it off manually

Amanda, connect an external monitor and see what it does. If an external monitor displays correctly, you know that you are having a working GPU ( graphic processor is part of your motherboard) Without actually seeing your screen, it does sound like a bad inverter or bad CCFL's in your LCD panel. Download the service manual from the bottom of this page. I would replace the inverter first (less expensive) if that does not work replace the LCD panel. Should your external monitor not show anything or behave like your LCD display, you are having GPU issues and this would require a motherboard repair. Hope this helps, good luck

If you regularly use your computer for prolonged periods of time then this will cause the computer to heat up rapidly. It sounds strange but over time the graphics card (typically an intel chipset) can actually melt away from the motherboard. This will eventually cause the graphics card to come away from the motherboard and the connection will be terminated. To fix this use a hairdryer or another heat emitting device and hold it over the graphics card for around 2-3 minutes. If necessary do this for longer but be warned that doing this too long can permanently damage the internals of your laptop. Try to point the hairdryer near the connection between the motherboard and the graphics card.

You should try to boot the computer with a boot disk or usb that has anti-virus software built in. This will start the windows machine and will scan the hard drive for trojans. It will find & remove trojans which may solve the problem. Read More - http://www.howtogeek.com/175234/how-to-u...

Else, you can format the hard drive (only if data is unwanted) to erase the infected drive content. Reinstall the OS and use machine as usual. But if you can't afford to loose data then try to boot the system with DVD mounted with anti-virus. If possible also try to run hardware test to diagnose any H/W issues.

it is probably your ram or cpu or gpu, in that case you will need to replace your moutherboard or see an expert about that.
