Water damage and safe boot issues

About a month ago I came home to a roomate telling me "someone" spilled a beer on your laptop. After letting the parts dry for about 3 weeks i opened up the laptop to assess the damage. Minor water damage I was able to clean almost all of it. However when I start the computer the keyboard is in caps lock and the computer safe booted. The track pad did not respond at all. Luckily I had an external keyboard and mouse so I was able to log in and restart the computer. However the computer still started in safeboot. My question is should I replace the keyboard and the track pad? Or where should I go from here?

See the tags at right for what you're in for. You will at least need a new upper case and track pad (hope "someone" can pay for that). This is a very advanced DIY repair project,

Sounds like you may have been lucky and suffered no logic board damage. Keyboards are much better sealed than earlier models where there was nothing but air between the keys and the logic board.

Purchase all the recommended tools (every job is easier when you have the proper tools), study the guide and notes (not just look at them) before beginning. Take pictures and make note of which screws go back where (I often stick them on sheets of paper using double sticky tape and make notes as needed).

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

Just to make this clear. The model I have has the keyboard built into the uppercase? Because I see replacement keyboards for sale for my model. But according to that tutorial it's built in. Because that's going to be the difference between 230$ or 30$. Much rather pay 30$

If you're a masochist then by all means save the money (look at the guide/tutorial for replacing only the keyboard it's a huge amount of work, not as easy as replacing the top case) and after you've sweat through all that fine work that you wont know for certain until you're done that your problem will be resolved. My Dad always said "You get what you pay for, and, you pay for what you get".
